They actually kinda do. High visibility, huge upfront demand, certainly frontloaded because of initial rush by fans, the exact same weekend of the year... BVS should be somewhat more frontloaded, but it's a solid comparison.

Uh, no, Tele. They are completely opposite to each other and have NOTHING in common. Batman v Superman is an original, independently produced short-form documentary, Fast and Furious is a huge blockbuster franchise... get it right...

When DHD said 76-80m I was gonna post 'this means 80-85m' but thought better not be a wisecrack. ^_^

Great news from RTH. Awesome if it does ~57M TF / 85M OD.

Hoping for 27.7 + 57.3 + 52 + 37 = 174M ... 2.3X away from 400M.

There haven't been enough Easter openers to show that there will be a major drop tomorrow imo F7 dropped 30 but Cot second biggest Easter opener dropped 16 we don't have enough data to make a conclusion now it may drop as much as f7 but it may not as well

There haven't been enough major Easter openers to make that claim yet one movie is not a trend. For example the next highest weekend clash of the Titans had an 18% drop Saturday there isn't enough data to make a reference this is only the second major movie to try this

Dude seriously - the data on Easter weekend didn't start with 2010

Holdovers are affected the same as openers - tis why with rare exception (or rather small indie films) that you see ACROSS THE BOARD decreases on the saturday after Good Friday. Is BvS only the 2nd major film (over 75m+) to open on the weekend sure, but go back to 2006 and read about Scary Movie 4's record opening then (40ishM if I remember right) and people thought they were crazy to put the film on Easter weekend. There is a distinct trend that you are willfully ignoring because it doesn't fit your criteria.

Also the change to previews on thursday rolled into Friday business has made the Friday-Saturday numbers more skewed either up or down and that is a trend year around. Clash had midnights but not anywhere close to what things do today on average.

Scary movie 4 is the fourth movie in a finishing franchise that is always heavily frontloaded not exactly the best comparison im not saying it will happen im saying the possibility is there

Well not exactly the same weekend as F7.

Sure, it's Easter weekend, but not everyone is on Vacation starting Monday. NYC schools are open and Spring Break isn't until April 25th.

So if NYC schools are open, I'm assuming a lot more states are in a similar situation. This can only mean expect a WORSE SUNDAY AND MONDAY DROP THAN FURIOUS 7.

Maybe it's wishful thinking, but could the religious symbolism of the movie temper the Easter Sunday drop? (Hope I am not being silly & out of line)

It went down 18% from Friday alone.  It's Thur was counted separately.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=daily&id=clashofthetitans10.htm

If BvS had an $83m Thur/Fri and performed like Titan

Thur: 27.7

Fri: 55.3

Sat: 45.35

Sun: 29m

= 157.47m

There's also no reason a big film should on average behave differently than a smaller one or a medium size one when it comes to holiday multiples.

To be fair, NYC schools are kinda weird with the schedules. They finish the school year at least two weeks later than my old suburban Jersey district does. Hell, I checked online early this week and my hometown goes on break starting today through next week.

And a superhero movie isn't frontloaded? seriously? It's gonna open huge worldwide because good Friday is a holiday in most Christian and secular countries.

I'm surprised it's not a complete holiday in the US. Do Americans love work that much?

I'm American and I don't even know what 'Good Friday Holiday' is.
