Its current tracking for $180-190 million ow makes it locked for $400 million dom and has a high chance of reaching $500 million dom. Worldwide, it's locked for $1.4 billion.

On todays world nothing is locked

even though this is a fine number let's not be all like "this is incredible considering this is a Captain America movie". No, despite the title this is an Avengers movie and was marketed as such

Yeah this movie had a lot going for it . Opening under ultron would be disappointing , no matter all the sugarcoating .

Mother's dig Chris Evans and will flock to this for Mothers Day... ;)

What was that really far-reaching reasoning that Kal had for his prediction of Superman Returns ' Titanic -challenging box office? That Christians would dig the Christ metaphor and flock to the theatres?

Let's look at best case scenario. Let's say evenings blow up big time and hit 95M OD, then it increases a bit from the true Friday and hits 90M Saturday and then the huge rush spills over onto Sunday and we get a 75M Sunday, we could see 260M OW and a new record.

I'm really surprised this is nowhere near avengers numbers. This is basically avengers 3 in its form and reviewing really well. Was avengers the pinnacle box office ow wise ?

How is 10% off from AOU "nowhere near" Avengers numbers? This is still a huge opening day and could easily hit 200M OW....

But it will.. 80-85M Saturday.. 70-75M on Sunday and with the Friday Number being 75-80M, that would pretty well put it right where I predicted...

lol now it's 75M Sunday?

With $400m domestic, $1.4b total is hardly locked.

$400 mil is the floor and $500 mil is the ceiling, so it's expected to gross in between those 2 totals. Right now, overseas for Civil War is stronger than AOU, so hopefully it can power it to $1.4 billion or higher. One thing that AOU is missing that Civil War has: good wom and reviews.

From here on out if a movie doesn't be the openings of the Force Awakens, Jurrassic World and the Avengers I will hereby declare them disappointments.

Maybe it s time to reboot the Avengers to put some needed fire back into the MCU.

Suggestions ?

Iron Man : Taylor Kitsch

Cap America : Charlie Hunnam

Ant Man : Seth Rogen

Thor : Alexander Skarsgard

Black Panther : Jayden Smith

Black Widow : Alicia Vikander

Scarlet Witch : Alicia Vikander

Sharon Carter : Alicia Vikander

Hulk : Alicia Vikander

Director : Noah Baumbach

So if it is a 80 mill Friday, then with a 10% drop on Saturday, it would have about 70 mill and with a 25% Sunday that gives it about 205 mill.  That's best case imo.

What is the absolute earliest RTH have posted his numbers on a Friday thread for a blockbuster? I know it's only 6pm, but would love to hear from him before 2am. At least to say "on par with deadline" "more" "less"

My reasoning has this:

Ridiculous reasoning.

Somehow, a gigantic surge of mothers will tell their children and significant others that they want to see the film because mannequin Evans is hot and it's Mother's Day, all to the tune of 225 OW*?

Ok.

*Rest in peace, dear club.

That's correct. A good example is Jurassic World which earned $18.5 million previews, and scored an out of this world $208 million ow.
