Skin color discrimination here has complex history. For one, because China used to be an agriculture country, poor farmers are regarded as the lowest class in society and they usually have dark skin tone. For two, Africans who are black are the largest foreigners population in China in recent decades because of China's relationship with Africa, China gave them very easy access to China such as work and education, but their actual skill or civil level are way worse than Chinese people in the same position or education level. For Chinese students they have to fight like hell to get in a good university but then some random Africans that don't even know mandarin can too just because. And then some Africans who are not civil and polite enough cause troubles in big cities, gave the whole race an bad name in China.

The whole thing is delicate and you can't just put racism on it and not see what really happened there.

"Black people commit crimes and their skill and civil level is lower" That is the same thing they say in America and the bad black stereotype. You just did put the is not racism or the same but sound the same?

It wasn't her, it was Marvel that decided to go with a non-glam version of MJ for the MCU. Dumbest decision ever because Zendaya is the most Mary Jane Watson person to ever Mary Jane Watson.

She is NOT Mary Jane. She is Michelle Jones. Not the same character. Zendaya is doing great.

*Michelle Jones-Watson, its clear Feige and Co intended for her to be the character Mary Jane without calling her that for whatever reason.

This is a flop worldwide, no one can deny that; however, the domestic gross is quite ok, all things considered. The legs will either make it or break it and it's very unlikely to "rule the summer" but could pheraps gather a very respectable $300M+ total gross.

They dont call her that because she is not Mary jane, she is different just like that Spider Man has ned, wich you could say is from miles morales comics but is not, is different.

Just back from seeing it in IMAX. I don’t know why some people are so upset lol.

Though Ariel and Ursula were excellent. Prince Eric was hot. It’s less interesting when they’re on land, but everything in the water is really well done. Her voice is stunning.

Someone here said they got Under The Sea wrong and that Ariel shouldn’t have been singing along. They haven’t seen the film then, she swims off before it’s over lol. Her mind is made up.

Even with a 4x multi domestically (removing monday) and internationally gets this to 670m. And thats the absolute best case. Much more likely it will go 3x and end at 510m.

No way you spin it. This is a shocking result.

For all intents and purposes, Zendaya is playing MJ Watson. I wouldn’t doubt that in the next trilogy they go full blown with the supermodel angle, or at least tinker with it.

OS rejection must be shocking to Disney. I'm shocked too. I thought TLM was a kind of movie that swam OS. But this is a complete rebuke, there's no way around it. No one invests 250M in just a domestic wonder. Least of all a global brand like Disney.

I think that an underrated factor in OS fiasco may be AWOW. LM was released relatively short after AWOW and audience had already got their underwater fix that was beyond amazing. LM was not. Underwater scenes were shit not just VFX but also unnecessary sisters who were very bad actresses. Previews looked like shit unlike AWOW and OS is really crazy for Avatar franchise.
