Honestly, it's tough to see how Beyond will perform.  It could have an OW above DOTPOTA with higher preview numbers, but Star Trek is much more fanboy-oriented than Dawn.  Then again, that didn't stop Into Darkness from having a lower preview number than Dawn, but that also had early IMAX showings, and previews weren't as common as they are now.

 

I think 60M is a safe bet for now.  I'll wait for a Friday number.

I think 5.5 is just fine, but not fantastic. Seeing 57 million or so with that. Hoping it'll do better as the weekend goes on.

I think this is confined to the Ice Age movies.

My point is this Summer's already had Dory and Pets and I'm sure there aren't many people who are seeing all three. Even if Ice Age was received better. I'm not saying this is the only factor (reviews and fatigue from the franchise also play a role) just that it's one of them.

None of these are actually good comparisons actually. None of them (apart from AoE) started show times before 10pm.

wrong quote, I was talking about Ice Age and how a lot people saw it bombing a few months back. The trailers are just godawful, Norm of the North godawful.

Despite higher preview numbers...It's hard to see a situation where this reaches 70M.  I think it'll reach 65M.

 

My predicts for now are:

 

Beyond: 65M

Lights Out: 25M

Collision Course: 20M

 

Looks like my prediction in CSG that Ice Age would open in 5th place paid off

What even is the plot to this new Ice Age, really? I've seen trailers/ads and still can't figure it out. Talk about not even trying.

Rooting for Star Trek to do 60m+ and leg it to ~3x for 180m dom.

(Loved ST1. ST2 was bit too self aware and pretentious.)

 

As to Pets over IA5 vs IA5 over Pets, being equally detached to each of them I am rooting for IA5 over Pets.

Because one of them has made a huge profit. Hopefully IA can do ok too.

I have only liked IA1 but hoping that the blockbuster (ww) franchise has a face saving end at least.
