I ve heard about walk-outs during some Arrival screenings.

That doesn't add up to me. Not sure when exactly someone would walk out on it considering the movie doesn't really go into "arthouse" territory until near the end. Why walk out by that point?

Wow! The Secret Life of Pets now at $367.2M DOM. :D

Almost $800.000 left to top DM2. I know you can do it.

How crazy would it be if SLOP becomes Illumination's highest grosser and then Sing comes along and tops SLOP?

The bad thing for them is that four of their five movies after Sing are franchise films. That's way too many and I don't think they can sustain this kind of success through such sequel mania.

There were rumors that Ben Affleck did not like her. He blocked her out for several jobs.

I know the WB kisses his ass but hard to believe he'd have that kind of industry power.

What are the rumors about why he didn't like her, that she acted him off the screen?

I am sure Hollywood has its fair share of pettyness and backstabbing because if you can do it, why not ?

I just noticed Rex Reed gave 25/100 to both Arrival and Doctor Strange (on Metacritic)

There are some people in this world who you are just incompatible with.

I think I just found mine.

Rex Reed has been The Worst for many, many years. Best to not give him any thought.

So I assume there's not actually going to be an "Untitled Disney Fairy Tale (Live Action)" in July next year

Maybe because she's literally the only thing about the movie the Academy liked.

I wouldn't mind getting to see the Honor Harrington books on film.

There is a nice discussion in one of it's sub-series (that are interacted with the main story) involving slavery based on skin colour (no one not educated into history in a bigger way beliefs it), the queen is black, the main character a female white-Asian mix, born on a planet with higher 'g' and trained in martial arts and shooting (raised near wilderness), no general racism similar to today, but lots of snobism for other reasons, a power also existing (but getting to appear a bit later on) is German-Asian mix culture, another of African decent only,... interesting to me, complex stories with tons of opportunities to cast a lot of minorities, involve ethical and political discussions / situations and so on. Genetic manipulation is a big theme too. And it has telepathic 6-legged so-called tree-cats, that partly do connect with 'their' people, and are far more intelligent than the most of the humans till later into the series know, might be a hit for toys... ;)

I know, I know, only a dream.

I started a new thread in Marvel Media, not sure if this is here also of interest as it concerns also IMAX

IMAX will show for 2 weeks starting September the first 2 episodes of the new ABC series The Inhumans... worldwide!

Probably a stupid question.

But how does the split profit work between Disney and its properties like Star Wars, the MCU, and say Pixar?

For Doctor strange would Disney get half the profit, and other half goes to the studio? For Star Wars? Half to Disney, half to Lucasfilms Ltd?

Would it be similar to WB and its DC properties, and Harry Potter franchise?

Thanks

CinemaScore is pretty much worthless when we try to predict a movie's legs (unless it's A+ or D/worse). A B CinemaScore can mean anything.

Wolf of Wall Street had an F. And we all know how well that movie ended up doing. So I agree with you these Cinema scores are basically useless.

They are wholly owned by Disney, so at the end of the day it's switching money around one's pockets. So I guess the short answer here is: whatever pays less tax. The long answer would probably be such a labyrinth of byzantine Hollywood accounting that would drive anyone crazy.

What do you mean? Disney is the studio. They own Marvel Studios. They own Pixar, they own Lucasfilm. So they get all the money. How they fund their projects/teams/companies is up to them and we'll never know (well maybe the information is in shareholder releases, idk)
