You are correct but it's still so petty, especially when it goes the other way. On another topic, Rth is saying on the UK thread that FB has an OD very close to 4 million £ ;-)

Yeah that's big. Definitely could be looking at a £12-14 million opening for it here. It needs to be a massive hit in the UK.

The ER is terrible so that wouldn't be enough to stop a drop in USD, far from it :( All we can hope is a better-than-expected performance in China but it's apparently unlikely.

Yep.

That would be a fantastic OD, and expectations. It's heading for a great opening in the UK, not that that's particularly surprising. But nice to see.

In terms of ER, it's ofcouse going to be massively down on previous Potters, but unfortunately there is nothing we can do about that.

Big difference.

Fantastic Beasts followed a well-regarded finale film stuffed full of goodwill, Batman Begins followed a franchise-killing disaster. Tracking/expectations on the latter never took that into account. So when it "only" opened to $74M over its 5-day, it was deemed a letdown... until the following weekend and its glue-like hold. The Hobbit is the better (albeit still not entirely on the money) comparison.

The Hobbit in not a good comperasion. It's a better one, but still not good. It had characters, locations and storylines form the original.

I mean, just compare the trailers

It is. But a big gross in the U.K. is still going  to be a nice chunk of its international. It needs a big number from the UK. Minimum $50 million imo

Lol and if it were the other way around if if all of the predictions of 100 million opening day came true everyone who predicted those correctly would also be gloating.

Fantastic Beasts is doing what we probably should have expected all along: $70-75 million OW. $180-230 million DOM isn't bad since this franchise is clearly being made for the $500-700 million from OS grosses.

Trolls and Doctor Strange both held as I expected. They should rebound nicely next week due to Thanksgiving. Trolls is on pace for $160-165 million DOM while Doctor Strange should end up at $225-230 million DOM.

Sad to see Arrival having a harsh 2nd weekend drop. Paramount should have added another 500-750 theaters this weekend.

Actually, given Olive's latest update in the China presales thread, it's OD presales are higher than DS' through the same point. Ofc, in the US presales were also higher, but it is encouraging news nonetheless.

Interesting, let's hope it's a good omen then :)

My only consolation with that ARRIVAL number (11.3) is that it's the highest PTA in the top 10 after Beasts and the 2nd or 3rd best drop in the top 10..

How much do you think it can end up making DOM given next weekend is thanksgiving?

Nocturnal Animals is looking at $395K for the weekend for an average of around $11K, which doesn't seem that great.

Manchester by the Sea is looking at between $44-50K. I expected stronger tbh, although it does have a long running time (137 minutes).

Once again we're reminded that people are more interested in beloved characters than a film simply being 'of the same world' — though all things considered I think it did pretty well. But best to remember that before Rogue One comes out.

Rogue One is different, there is Darth Vader and the Death Star. Disney knows better :P

1.1M for Billy Lynn is absolutely shocking. And Edge of 17 is not much better. Sure, production budget is low but with amazing reviews and almost 2 months since TIFF screening they had a lot of time to make people excited.
