jumanji make a headline in local entertainment news here in malaysia as it surprisingly beat TLJ in its opening weekend.....

Not surprised. Jumanji is crazily entertaining. Wait, is it having sneaks in Malaysia?

Its having Sneaks here in Singapore

yes, 4 days sneak-preview beat a full opening of TLJ, that's why the surprise

I can't find any news on that. Can you share? :) always good to see an underdog win. Just like how Ip Man 3 beat Force Awakens in its 2nd weekend, and almost beat in total gross despite Ip Man 3 having less screens and no IMAX or 3D premium formats.

Doubt this is the case in Singapore though, for Jumanji, every1 is watching the Last Jedi despite most audience reviews being really mixed to negative.

OMG, I was reading "snakes" instead of "sneaks"

Glad about Jumanji, I got in love with that movie with the first trailer :)

it is written in chinese....http://www.sinchew.com.my/node/1711647

same goes to here, the comment section down there was largely mixed for TLJ....but malaysian are not really keen to SW franchise, TFA can't even make half of the money of ultron and F7 in 2015

That's the strength of comicbook movies on the long run : they're far more popular than Star Wars in Asia and Latin America :)  These 2 regions are where the growth of the movie industry is after all.

Thanks for the link.

我读的懂。 谢谢。 这个成绩不错啊。

这个星洲网的新闻有时不是很完整啊。 我那时在查"追龙"的票房,他们只放了首周末的。 如果你有追龙的数据,也请麻烦让我知道。

Thanks. :)

I definitely didn't feel the buzz this year in the UK like I did in 2015, I guess that reflects the -27% change in the UK's gross.

Oh please. You clearly know nothing about box office because then you'd know that actually it dropped 17% in local currency, and 27% in dollars because of the weak pound... You'd also know that a £28m 4-day gross is the 2nd biggest ever, after TFA, and that a sub 20% drop from an already unprecedented opening is a great result. Obviously there was no buzz. And no, I'm not a SW fanboy, I haven't even seen TLJ yet.

It won't surprise me Jumanji do better than TLJ  in Asia. The buzz is not strong in China too.TLJ expect Rogue one number in Mainland.30-40% down from TFA.

It's gonna bomb in China cause it has nothing that China hasn't seen and better. Such as saber fights. Domestic audience raves about the fight in the movie but the choreography is nothing that would excite China market that has seen 1000 better and more spectacular in their own movies and TV shows.

Very true about the lack of interest in China for all the Jedi drama. It will be interesting to see if TLJ beats Valerian, which made $62 million in China.

New market with a very small history since it became a major one.

But is there any precedent of a sequel dropping that much from Force Awaken 124m ?

Could be a first too, not many movie had that giant marketing push Force Awaken had in China without being a proven concept in China I imagine, Rogue One was not far with 2 popular actor in that market being present in the movie.
