With most studios closed for New Year’s Day, the weekend estimates have a rather piecemeal look as of this morning. We do have an official weekend estimate for Sing, which Universal projects will make $41.5 million over the three-day weekend and $53.4 million over four, for a total coming out of the holidays at an impressive $177.3 million. That will put it in second place, not far behind Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Disney won’t be releasing numbers until tomorrow, but we should see a three-day weekend around $50 million, $65 million over four days, and a total of about $440 million by Tuesday morning.

That might mean that this is it for the moment. Curious if BOM will do something, they are at wotk with updating some OS numbers

Could Fantastic Beasts catch up with Doctor Strange domestic boxoffice? It won overseas and worldwide and it's closing dom gap despite opening 10M under DS. Pretty impressive run all things considered.

I think FB will outgross DS by about 2-3 m.

Fantastic Beasts; 235-236m

Doctor Strange; 232-233m

I'd be perfectly fine with 16M+.

I'm really interested in the overseas numbers particularly in non English speaking countries where our critics don't seem to have as much impact.  I've heard decent things about Russia, I think, but I want something official.

UK Boxing Day openers estimated debuts: Why Him? (£2.2m); Monster Trucks (£1.8m); Collateral Beauty (£1.1m).

I know it's UK, but isnt that the strange film some of you joke about?

MISS PEREGRINES HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN: $197.9M Overseas Total / $284.8M Global Total

TROLLS: $182.1M Overseas Total / $332.6M Global Total

Including TFA, Disney has six of the ten biggest films of 2016. What an incredible year for them, a year that likely won't be matched for a long time.

For me, and this is a personal opinion, they cant top 2015, i mean, having a 900+ grosser is just so amazing.

Apart from being admittedly biased, Fantastic Beasts is perhaps the unsung hero of the holiday season. It grossed 3+x its opening weekend and it was huge out of the US. I think it could be even bigger in the US, but R1 just consumed all the oxygen I suppose. But nobody seems to acknowledge these deeds. All you hear is R1, Sing and Moana.

the American WW fanbase did not get fully mobilised, maybe influenced by the American critics who brought it down to 74% from 100%.  I will never forget the deluge of negative reviews just before it opened in the US, one can only wonder why that happened.

The figures and WOM are very promising for the sequel.

Is Sony holding the numbers again?
