Exactly. Every time you google a film or buy a ticket on fandango an ugly score is right in front of you. It has changed the landscape. I think it also changes how critics behave.

Studios should seriously tell Fandango to stop putting the RT score in front of the ticket ordering...

While BvS had major flaws, its RT rating was sheer lunacy or worse. Conversely, how did Ghostbusters achieve a 72% ????? Or Dr Strange get a 90% or something? Truly bizarre reactions by "certified critics"

They need to do something. Because one of the things I noticed is that nowadays there is no middle ground. A film is either fresh or rotten. A good but flawed film becomes a rotten film. Studios have to rethink their release strategies, or at least join the Disney payola conspiracy. :P

I don't recall Dragon Tattoo, based on a hugely successful novel, getting critically mauled, nor a site like RT amplifying the mauling for all to see. But thank you holidays. Works for me.

Point is if this movie breaks $100 million that is a huge victory all things considered. That would be remarkable.

More like a Pyrrhic victory

It's not a huge victory for Sony when the budget is $110m and the marketing is at minimum $50m+ more, any more than Ghostbusters was a huge victory for them - and that made more money.  This was meant to be a tent pole and needed to do at least twice as much to be considered a success.  A studio doesn't spend that kind of money on budget, marketing and salaries to maybe not even break even.  This was also not a success for JLaw or Pratt to get those size salaries again for their next project.

R1 18.2 + Moana 4.3 = 22.5

That leaves 17.3 for Disney to get on NYE to pass 3b.

DS should add another  .4 to .5 combined over both days, so do we think that there will be more than a 25% drop for R1 and Moana combined?

Cutting it real real close.

Wonder how New Years Eve is handled in Puerto Rico.

If a film has major flaws why would or should a critic like it or recommend it?  That's what RT is - yay or nay.   If you want to see what the avg grade is that's also there right under the RT score.

When you start behaving like the Chinese gov't in regards to the movie business believing that critics solely exist to champion and boost up the films you want to make money  maybe you should take a step back into reality.

How much did Pratt get for Passengers? Whatever they paid him, it wasn't worth it. I like him a lot but he keeps disappointing in these unsuitable roles and proving that he got so little range in acting. It's quite unfortunate.

I also wonder how much he got for GOTG2. Probably a really sizable increase from the first, which is good, because that would be fitting and make sense.

Props to @Kalo's club though. Even if they barely miss 3B (which I don't think they will), he can surely claim the moral victory.

Looking at both Ghost Protocol* and Game of Shadows, a 15 to 20 percent drop looks to be in the ballpark range for R1.  Moana might be hit worse, or it might actually have an increase  given where it's at in the release cycle.  Be interesting to find out.

* I keep forgetting to look at GP for comps on how blockbusters do in the holidays, but that's because of its weird rollout it had.  I wasn't paying attention that year, so just what was up with that rollout strategy for it, anyway (opened at 425 some odd theaters and then went wide the next weekend)?

$12.5m.   I think it started around $8m when he was first announced post GOTG then was boosted on the back of JW opening - which really had very little to do with Pratt.  No one was offering the actual lead Bryce Howard (who was also better in the movie)  $12.5m for a role.

Yeah, it has to be much bigger for GOTG2.  I doubt he got much for GOTG.  Marvel, especially post Ike is reportedly good about boosting lead salaries for sequels even with actors under contract (especially when the salaries for the first movies in Phase I were so low)  For that role he's worth a $10m+ salary.
