ATTENTION!!!

Can someone please explain to me why the hell did A Monster Calls drop 75% this weekend? More than Assassins Creed while losing like 1500 theaters?

I haven't seen it yet but it looks SO good, it has 87% with a high average rating on RT and people that actually saw it seem to realy like it.

Is it the tough subject matter?

Every theater has it down to a single showtime by me.

huh, that is strange. I would offer 2 explanations:

1) the cinemas all reduced its showtimes drastically / gave it bad showtimes since it performed badly in 1st week. This is what we did in the cinema I worked for, if we were contractually obliged to show a film for a 2nd week, and it did really badly we would just show it at like 1 showing a day at 11pm.

2) the opening weekend was inflated from families who attended thinking it was a family film. The marketing has been a big problem and this I imagine is what caused the big drop.

It tanked really hard in both limited and wide release so theaters have been quick to cut showtimes.

As American who's lived in Canada for like 8 years the cultural differences between the 2 countries is astounding. Universal health care is considered a normal thing and something we brag about to Americans lol. people literally can't comprehend why Americans are against it.

Believe me, a lot of the people where I live would love universal healthcare. There's a lot of issues with getting it past, though, not the least of which has to do with money.

Live by Night is not even in the top 10.

No, but Passengers is!  :)

and it is about $147M overseas at this point, as well.  Unfortunately, I don't know how much longer it has to run there. It only gets 2 weeks in China (and may make about $30M there according to estimates in the China box office thread.)

Lets talk about Pokemon.

My favorite is anything that can learn Stealth Rock

My favorite is Little Mew because he/she is cute and powerful and bobs around in a bubble, and I got a Little Mew in a plastic bubble at a Burger King once.

I never really got into the intricate part of Pokemon, I'm afraid.

All sounds valid, i guess it is just hard to believe a movie that i believe looks fabolous and others speak highly of is tanking so hard.

I'll have to add it to the pile of box office mysteries (like Avengers grossing 600m+ ;))...

My twitter timeline says it is wonderful.  It's a shame it got a bad start at a super crowded time.

Fuckin A.

Water parks are just as bad.  Dolphins are slaughtered by the Japanese or Dutch or Norwegians and the ones that are left behind are sold to water parks for a life time of slavery after they have watched their family get cut open while they are still breathing.

:hi5:

Yep, nobody's ever going to convince me that that's necessary. That, fois gras, etc

Ben is on the verge of collapsing.

I saw those videos from Graham Norton for Emma and Ryan, and all I could think was "Darn, WTF is up with Ben Affleck's face?!"
