Speaking of which, congrats on your 20th nomination, Queen Meryl!

Hatebox
It's boring having that many nominees for BP. For some reason I'd assumed they'd backtracked on that.
Morieris
I even bet on reddit the academy would not put all three major black films in the BP slot. I don't think HF necessarily deserves it but hey, neither does stuff in the past, so I'm fine. I am REALLY jazzed about Arrival! And they (myself included) said it wouldn't happen! Fancyarcher
So I just realized that Suicide Squad and 13 Hours have as many nominations as Silence? WTF academy?
filmlover
And can we please use never use this kind of presentation? So dumb. Just announce them live, as always.
CoolioD1
Nom count for picture nominees La La Land - 14 (aka tied record with titanic and all about eve) Arrival - 8 Moonlight - 8 Hacksaw Ridge - 6 Lion - 6 Manchester By The Sea - 6 Fences - 4 Hell or High Water - 4 Hidden Figures - 3
eXtacy
While Your Name got snubbed at least Hacksaw Ridge my second favorite film of last year did well.
Nova
Im still baffled that Amy Adams got snubbed. And Suicide Squad and Passengers getting as many nominations as Silence? LOL.
ShouldIBeHere
So does La La Land have a shot at breaking the record of BenHur/Titanic/LotRRotK or are there too many categories it isn't likely to win?
MikeQ
Well, it looks like La La Land has this in the bag. Moonlight is really the only other contender, but it can't compete with a record 14 nominations for La La Land. My nom counts for all films with multiple (i.e. more than one) nominations: La La Land - 14 Moonlight - 8 Arrival - 8 (no Amy Adams) Lion - 6 Manchester by the Sea - 6 (no Editing) Hacksaw Ridge - 6 Fences - 4 Hell or High Water - 4 Jackie - 3 Hidden Figures - 3 Passengers - 2 Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them - 2 Florence Foster Jenkins - 2 Kubo and the Two Strings - 2 A Man Called Ove - 2 Moana - 2 Rogue One - 2 Deepwater Horizon - 2 Peace, Mike

The only ones I'm certain it won't win are Best Actor and maybe the Sound categories.

Possibly. 2 of it's nominations are song, so only 13 possible wins. Gosling isn't winning, so that's 12 and gets the record if it wins everything else (possible). If it loses Screenplay it ties the record, and if it also loses a tech not a record.
CoolioD1
moonlight was really the only other major contender that got the maximum of its potential nominations so it's probably cemented itself as the second place film. Jenkins got an easy oscar with that screenplay switch over.

filmlover
I'm pretty sure La La Land is the biggest Best Picture lock since at least Slumdog Millionaire. They might as well just crown it right now.
