A very cool interview. Gunn talks about how Thor ending up in the Guardians was not part of his plan and also talks about the importance of Marvel and DC both doing good

I'm kinda bitter we didn't get an Asguardians of the Galaxy movie with Thor teaming up with the Guardians. That was the only good part of Thor 4 tbh.

I’ve got to agree. The marketing has been bad on this one.

No real hook with the trailers and they are not really selling it as the “final” Guardians movie as much as they should.

Not really making it a must-see event might help though, maybe it won’t the big 2nd weekend drop the last few Marvel films have suffered if WOM is good lol.

With the 2nd weekend being Mother's Day weekend with (right now) 3 wide openers, ummm, it's gonna have a big drop.  Maybe not Ant Man 3's 69.9%, but it's gonna be 60+...

Are you expecting Book Club 2, Hypnotic (a Robert Rodriguez movie no one has still heard of), or Love Again to have an impact on GotG3? it's quite possible that the sum of all 3 openings is less than half the gross of Guardians 2nd weekend.

Guardians going to drop hard for sure because it's the classic upfront demand of a tentpole. Even JW4 dropped over 60+

Many toxic sequels?

NWH was loved

Wakanda Forever was well liked

AMQ and DSMoM were a mixed bag. Expectations were too high because of concept (multiverse) and villain

Thor 4 is probably the only MCU sequel lately that really met polarizing reactions, but not worse than those received by Thor 2 or Iron Man 3.

2nd weekend drop for MCU does not need competition. Even Wakanda crashed after a big OW without any competition. It will drop in mid 60s like any MCU sequel. 3rd weekend with FX opening makes it interesting. While I believe FX will under perform, would losing PLF/Imax impact GOTG again.

QM, DS2, Thor 4 were all received worse than Thor 2 and IM3

It's that the openers also skew more Mother's Day than an MCU movie...so, for example, Book Club 2 will likely get a big screen for its open vs a podunk 60 seater b/c people are gonna want somewhere to take mom and grandmom, and MCU raccoon family isn't normally it...

It's a holiday weekend that won't help GOTG3...so it's dropping the norm 60+, EVEN IF it opens in a subpar to its expectations way...

It all depends on how well received the movie is though.

I do expect a 60% drop but if it opens below expectations but is received well, it could surprise us.
