The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Recommended Posts

I never said Detective Pikachu was gonna be fan driven. In fact, I've always said that if its gonna play like an event movie, it's gonna have to play more like a 4 quadrant film than a fanboy one. A fanboy driven DP movie wouldn't be an event movie. In order for it to be an event movie, it will need to attract family crowds. I have no idea how Detective Pikachu will do exactly as I don't have a magic eight ball. I made my predictions and still stand by them mind you. 7 hours of pre-sales for a movie I'm not exactly sure how its gonna play isn't gonna change that.

It was hard to tell sometimes exactly what was a joke and what was legitimate optimism.

I’ll be glad to see some of the Pika hype come back to earth, but I agree that it’ll pick up closer to release and have a good walk-up % for a fine weekend.

It is getting hard to tell, my question was not rhetorical.

I always like for Alita anti-gravity talk imagine it is all thong and cheek talk of 300m domestic being locked type for this.

Alita anti-gravity talk was not tongue in cheek.

Tough to tell. Not enough people quit the joke and got serious, if any. I think most people are dead serious.

Some of my posts were jokes. Some of them weren't. Depending on your expectations for Detective Pikachu, my joke posts maybe seen as serious and my serious posts maybe seen as jokes

It is quite close to 100% impossible that they were serious that the weekends will go bigger and bigger instead of down for that movie, almost everything that gang say is a group art performance I think.

As for DP imo it was half and half. The long-timers here ((TOG, Nova, YM, CJohn etc etc)) were joking around. A few other people I won't name...not so much.

My real prediction which I posted in the Detective Pikachu thread is between GOTG and GOTG 2. So $90-$140M for OW and $320M-$375M total. How it does OS will depend on if it actually breaks out in China or not.

The final end ranges will depend on the quality and obviously WOM but I don’t think an OW range of $90-$140M is outlandish for it. Will def try to make that range smaller as release date nears though.

Anything else i said was a joke

That's bigger then my range but I wouldn't be shocked if that happens honestly. I'm thinking 80-110 rn.

I have fully entered Poe's law then and you could be right, I was certain until very recently that the flat earth stuff was a form of Pastafarianism religion act to see if people would believe that people could believe that, well that could have been the case also.

One member who I will not name has been on record of nearly having to be removed from an early showing of Alita for getting too rowdy and loud with excitement when James Cameron showed up.

Looking at the times and knowing the area, I believe on these show times (not counting any more that could be added) we could get to 3300 tickets sold. The theater will now be using 20 out of 24 screens for Endgame. I'm hoping they can move in 4 more shows to get an even 50.
