What the hell is going on with this movie?

Clearly monday aren't inflating the numbers that much, is bizarre how it's doing so average on local theaters according to some folks here but it's doing so good on Fandango / Pulse [which was decent already in the past few days].

The thing is that Movietickets is mirroring Fandango's strength, suggesting that it's not just Fandango that is off the mark.

Given that it's a long weekend, maybe Saturday/Sunday sales are making up a larger portion of the presales than for a regular family film at this point, and people on here are just focusing on Thu/Fri locally?

I think it could be the case... maybe the movie will be backloaded afterall

SInce @Mulder isn't here, I'll say it for her:  That's not a great sign for Aladdin  that it is actually behind Pikachu 1 day before opening night.

Any sense whether or not Pika PIka overperformed at your theater?

I don't have much to go on as I have really only tracked SW and SH movies before this, but I didn't get that impression. TBH, we might be looking at under $80m for the 4 days.

Only Thursdays

Orange Park AMC

Aladdin - 190 (+36), 12 screenings (2 IMAX, 2 Dolby, 1 3D, 6 Regular, 1 Fan Event)

Godzilla KOTM - 139 (+13), 7 screenings (2 IMAX, 1 Dolby, 2 3D, 2 Regular)

Rocketman - 29 (+2), 3 screenings (1 Dolby, 2 Regular)

SLOP2 - 1 (+1), 2 screenings (2 Regular)

Dark Phoenix - 96 (+1), 8 screenings (1 IMAX, 2 Dolby, 2 3D, 2 Regular, 1 Fan Event)

Massive haul by Aladdin and KOTM had a fantastic day as well. Rocketman is doing the same thing and even SLOP2 got a ticket! Dark Phoenix was the only one that had a relatively bad day.

Regency AMC

Aladdin - 321 (+43), 13 screenings (+2 3D, +3 Regular) (2 IMAX, 2 Dolby, 4 3D, 5 Regular)

Godzilla KOTM - 157 (+10), 10 screenings (3 IMAX, 2 Dolby, 2 3D, 3 Regular)

Rocketman - 21 (+2), 3 screenings (1 Dolby, 2 Regular)

SLOP2 - 5 (0), 5 screenings (2 3D, 3 Regular)

Dark Phoenix - 129 (+10), 8 screenings (1 IMAX, 2 Dolby, 2 3D, 2 Regular, 1 Fan Event)

Aladdin got a huge 43 tickets today and added 5 more screenings. KOTM had a good day and Dark Phoenix had a great day with the same number of tickets sold. Rocketman scored a couple and SLOP2 got 0.

Epic Theatres at Oakleaf

Aladdin - 91 (+17), 5 screenings (2 Epic XL, 1 3D, 2 Regular)

Godzilla KOTM - 19 (+3), 3 screenings (3 Epic XL)

Rocketman - 0 (0), 2 screenings (2 Regular)

SLOP2 - 4 (0), 3 screenings (3 Regular)

Dark Phoenix - 0 (0), 2 screenings (2 Regular)

Aladdin continues to grow while Godzilla got a few tickets as well. Any tickets preordered before the week of is a good sign at this theater.

NewVision 12 at Fleming Island

Aladdin - 37 (+16) , 4 screenings (2 3D, 2 Regular)

Godzilla KOTM - 4 (0) , 3 screenings (3 Regular)

Rocketman - 0 (0), 0 screenings

SLOP2 - 0 (0), 0 screenings

Dark Phoenix - 1 (0), 2 screenings (2 Regular)

Aladdin is showing huge growth at all theaters. I don't know if this is just a by-product of the film opening in a couple of days or if it's about to have a huge opening. There are still a ton of unsold tickets and empty theaters, but the growth it's showing is impressive. Godzilla looks to be doing solid numbers as well. Everything else I have no idea.

Only Thursdays

Orange Park AMC

Aladdin - 220 (+30), 12 screenings (2 IMAX, 2 Dolby, 1 3D, 6 Regular, 1 Fan Event)

Godzilla KOTM - 141 (+2), 7 screenings (2 IMAX, 1 Dolby, 2 3D, 2 Regular)

Rocketman - 33 (+4), 3 screenings (1 Dolby, 2 Regular)

SLOP2 - 1 (0), 2 screenings (2 Regular)

Dark Phoenix - 100 (+4), 8 screenings (1 IMAX, 2 Dolby, 2 3D, 2 Regular, 1 Fan Event)

Aladdin got another good haul, but is still behind JW3 but a good 42 tickets at the same point last week. Godzilla had a slow day but is still comfortably ahead of Aladdin at this point last week. Rocketman and Dark Phoenix both got a few tickets, with Dark Phoenix getting over 100 real quick. The fan screening is what's really pushing up sales. We'll see if it keeps it up.

Regency AMC

Aladdin - 368 (+47), 13 screenings (+2 3D, +3 Regular) (2 IMAX, 2 Dolby, 4 3D, 5 Regular)

Godzilla KOTM - 172 (+15), 10 screenings (3 IMAX, 2 Dolby, 2 3D, 3 Regular)

Rocketman - 23 (+2), 3 screenings (1 Dolby, 2 Regular)

SLOP2 - 5 (0), 5 screenings (2 3D, 3 Regular)

Dark Phoenix - 136 (+7), 8 screenings (1 IMAX, 2 Dolby, 2 3D, 2 Regular, 1 Fan Event)

Aladdin had another big day but is still behind JW3 by 24. Godzilla had a monster day about to head into its final week and is ahead of Aladdin in presales by a decent amount. I don't even know why I'm following Rocketman and SLOP2. lol. Dark Phoenix had another good day and is ahead of Godzilla at this point in its presales. Although, the fan screening filled up massively on Xmen Day so that might be a factor.

Epic Theatres at Oakleaf

Aladdin - 120 (+29), 5 screenings (2 Epic XL, 1 3D, 2 Regular)

Godzilla KOTM - 26 (+7), 3 screenings (3 Epic XL)

Rocketman - 0 (0), 2 screenings (2 Regular)

SLOP2 - 4 (0), 3 screenings (3 Regular)

Dark Phoenix - 0 (0), 2 screenings (2 Regular)

Aladdin has another good day while Godzilla had a great day considering this theater's tendency to not get any presales before the week of.

NewVision 12 at Fleming Island

Aladdin - 49 (+12) , 4 screenings (2 3D, 2 Regular)

Godzilla KOTM - 4 (0) , 3 screenings (3 Regular)

Rocketman - 0 (0), 0 screenings

SLOP2 - 0 (0), 0 screenings

Dark Phoenix - 1 (0), 2 screenings (2 Regular)

So overall I'm definitely worried about Aladdin. It's preselling less than JW3 and given that the Disney remakes are usually light on walkups, memorial weekends bad reputation, the general meh reviews, and the terrible marketing... my hopes are less than high. Godzilla, on the other hand, is doing fantastic. Hopefully the reviews stay as crazy good as they've been and the monster movie walkup factor takes the film to a giant opening. Dark Phoenix is currently kicking ass and taking names, but the fan screenings that filled up on XMen Day are really packing most of its bite. We'll see if it keeps up the good sales. Rocketman is very very meh and SLOP2 is still a presale corpse. Don't know what to make of those.

Figure I'll put my Aladdin locals Thursday, so I can see if they grow by Thursday...

1st local - Cinemark - 2 shows - 1 2d - 71/185 seats sold, 1 3d - 8/185 seats sold - total 79/370 sold

2nd local - Regal - 4 shows - 3 2d - 32/125, 76/170, 9/125 seats sold, 1 3d - 4/170 - total 121/590 sold

It's actually doing okay...although its night shows and 3ds are non-existent, but I expect that b/c I see this as a 35+ (and dragged 12 and under) movie demo...I'm not sure this is gonna turn out the 13-34s, except for those uber-Disney fans, or those who started families early:)...

So, the locals expanded Thursday shows on Tuesday morning, and I thought I'd update with my "before the big walkup/prebuy day" data...

1st local - Cinemark - now has 6 shows, but still only 1 3d (that is selling like crap at both locals, and Aladdin is really not getting much 3d for Thursday here)...2d - 103/185 (+32), 9/60 (+9), 11/60 (+11), 10/60 (+10), 2/60 (+2) and 3d 16/185 (+8) for total 151/610 sold (+72 in 4 days)

2nd local - Regal - now has 7 shows, but still only 1 3d...2d - 68/125 (+36), 101/170 (+25), 12/90 (+12), 23/125 (+14), 2/50 (+2), 4/90 (+4) and 3d - 4/170 (+0 - did I mention 3d was crapola) for total 212/820 sold (+91 in 4 days)

If this was any family movie but a Disney movie, I'd say this is a very good 1 day prior number, even though the numbers haven't "ramped" that much...but, it is a Disney movie and those just presale more to their fanbase, so I dunno...

I'm trying to not let my feel for the movie affect my judgment for the movie...I think we should be able to see the Thursday preview numbers we've seen the last few weeks, even if the normal last-minute presales surge and walk ups are light (and if they are really good, we might see higher)...but my area could be overperforming and these 2 theaters are only selling the cheap tickets, with 3d being a crap seller and not even offered more than once at both...

Piggybacking on  what @CoolEric258 said a few days a go, TS4 showings are now popping up in Sacto, though not for purchase yet, obs.

6pm previews, Opening Night Fan Event (2D) at 5pm.

And, whoo boy, lots of showings already.  Century Arden has 10 showings already up.  For comparison, it just expanded Aladdin to 12 showings and KotM  is still at 5.

Looks like any day now, if Cinemark is starting to upload its schedule locally.

First count of today, just Thursdays-

Godzilla: KoTM-142 (+3), 8 screenings (3 IMAX, 3 3D, 3 Regular)

Aladdin-173 (+11), 7 screenings (2 IMAX, 2 3D, 3 Regular+Fan Screening) Final Day

Final count of today, just Thursdays-

Godzilla: KoTM-159 (+19), 8 screenings (3 IMAX, 3 3D, 3 Regular)

Aladdin-183 (+21), 7 screenings (2 IMAX, 2 3D, 3 Regular+Fan Screening) Final Day

KoTM had an amazing day but this is fucking horrible for Aladdin. Absolutely atrocious. Below Pikachu and John Wick on it's final day by a landslide. Can't even try to sell this as a good thing. This is an absolute and utter flop.

So Aladdin is doing well on Fandango but I'm seeing mixed reports here from theaters? Feel like we're missing something.

I decided to check my local theater and Aladdin has sold 13 seats for a preview, but since I've never counted them before I have no comparison with other openers. You guys may have inspired me to start keeping track. 😁

Holy fuck Pikachu today. :ohmygod: Tracking this movie has been such a pleasure seeing it go up and up has been incredible. In total today Detective Pikachu sold a whopping 39 tickets which is exactly what it needed for tomorrow, John Wick sold 6 tickets and hit 100, and Aladdin had another day selling 0 tickets which is...worrisome.

HOLY FUCK THIS JOHN WICK INCREASE AND KING OF THE MONSTERS HIT 100 TICKETS IN ONLY 5 DAYS!!!!! :ohmygod: Absolutely insane day today. Also Dark Phoenix is selling consistently well so...hmmmmmmmmm. Might do better then we think unless my theater is overperforming. Also Aladdin had another day of no ticket sales when it's only 8 days away...that's not what you want to see especially with KoTM hitting 100 tickets before Aladdin, in only 5 days. In total today Godzilla sold 5 tickets, John Wick sold an insane 60 tickets, and Dark Phoenix sold 10 tickets.

Just to show how horrid this final Aladdin number is. It's 40 tickets behind John Wick's final day and 44 tickets behind Detective Pikachu's final day. Both movies that opened to 50+ on OW. At this stage I honestly wonder how much Aladdin'll even make.

The best comp I have so far might be Detective Pikachu.  I also have less ideal comps with Solo (for Memorial Day Weekend like-for-like), JW2 and FB2.  Other last minute comps in Venom and Ant-Man and the Wasp have been added.

Unadjusted Comps

1.1103x as many tickets sold as Detective Pikachu 1 day before release.

T-1:

Pika:     472  tickets sold  [0 sellouts/112 showings   |  8001/10258 seats left   | 22.00% sold]

Adjusted Comps

.4561x as many tickets sold as Solo 1 day before release.

.5308x as many tickets sold as Fallen Kingdom 1 day before release.

.8434x as many tickets sold as Ant-Man and the Wasp 1 day before release.

.8295x as many tickets sold as Venom 1 day before release.

.6052x as many tickets sold as Crimes of Grindelwald 1 day before release.

ADJUSTMENT NOTE: If a theater locally that is now selling tickets for reserved seating was selling them for the above movies, but as non-reserved seating for that movie, it is not counted toward the ratio of 'as many tickets sold' for the movie in question.  If a theater is brand new to the region and wasn't yet open for one of the above movies, however, it will be counted toward the ratio.  It will also be counted toward the ratio if it was playing in a different number of theaters locally.

T-1 day:

Solo              377 tickets sold [0 sellouts/142 showings |   8575/13453 seats left | 36.26% sold]

JW2               768 tickets sold [0 sellouts/147 showings |   9523/13715 seats left | 30.57% sold]

IMO, the best comp of movies I have tracked will be Fallen Kingdom.  I also have comps with the Aladdin (still in pre-sales) and Detective Pikachu as something as a compare/contrast with current May movies.  They may not be as good comps, being in different genres.

Unadjusted Comps

1.0450x as many tickets sold as Detective Pikachu 8 days before release.

0.8412x as many tickets sold as Aladdin 8 days before release.

PRE-SALES NOTE:  [Pika Pika had 29 days of pre-sales and Aladdin had 24 while King of the Monsters had 20 days of pre-sales]

T-8:

Pika      132 tickets sold  [0 sellouts/64 showings   |  6485/7352 seats left    | 11.79% sold]

Aladdin   54 tickets sold  [0 sellouts/74 showings   |  9641/10718 seats left  | 10.05% sold]

Adjusted Comps

.4462x as many tickets sold as Fallen Kingdom 8 days before release.

PRE-SALES NOTE: JW2 had 22 days of pre-sales while KotM had 20.  Also some theaters had KotM tickets on sale for a few days before they were officially announced to the public for sale.

JW2               94 tickets sold [0 sellouts/111 showings |   9394/11263 seats left   |  16.59% sold]

KotM (JW)      43 tickets sold [0 sellouts/90 showings   | 10283/11074 seats left   |    7.14% sold]

KotM (JW) is the number of tickets sold at the same theaters I had tracking info for Fallen Kingdom.
