Yeah, Prometheus was actually an over-performer.

So long as you don't expect Alien movies to be gigantic, it's a perfectly fine mid-level or even small-level franchise.

Giving Alien a May release was also a really stupid idea

Id prefer the former because I feel like too often people are generous graders. The sample gets more noisy as opposed to deciding simply I liked it or didn't.

And that's why RT works as an aggregator. Like/dislike is quicker and easier to interpret than "3/5, read the full review below."

Can see an Alien vs Predator reboot if next years Predator does well

Maybe, but count Ridley Scott out since Scott does not like the crossover.

Its hilarious they think they can dupe the public into going OW to a shit film. They will be sorely mistaken if they cut off critical access beforehand.

It'll be difficult. Even if Time Warner/Comcast change RT, CBS isn't going to change Metacritic. Why would they?

But it might lengthen again if those new reboots fail...just like we might see less 5quels soon:)...

5quels will be replaced with reinvigoration or revivals (Fast and Furious, Jurassic World).

Especially after studios realize how hard it is to launch a successful cinematic universe.

They are all copy cats. It's like an incestuous relationship that keeps going in circles. For such a creative industry, the business model is basically follow the leader (which recently has been Disney).

Fox will loose money on Covenant.

They will pull the plug, unless it does batshit numbers in China.

Fox seems to be much more reluctant to give on it's franchises then most studios, I suspect they might give the Alien franchise one more try, but sans Ridley Scott,a smaller budget and j"Let's pretend that Prometheus and Covenent" never happened.

And of course if the Predator reboot does well there is always Alien Vs Predator (just count Scott out, he dislikes the crossover idea).

This is one thing the Alien Franchise has over the POTC franchise: you can do a Alien movie on a modest budget, but with a POTC movie you are going to spend some serious cash. Even the reduced budget for POTC 5 was pretty big.

I kinda hope one last Pirates of the Caribbean movie happens that brings everybody back for one last adventure if only to snicker at the absurdity of Brenton Thwaites (27) joining alongside "father" Orlando Bloom (40) and "mother" Keira Knightley (32).

The industry may be full of creative people, but in the end it's still an industry. Built on the backs of unions and minimum wage workers and only really giving the huge monetary rewards to the 1% at the top.

Please, take the political rhetoric somewhere else. We are having a nice civil discussion here, and I would like to keep it that way.

It's getting embarrassing. Sony should feel that way about Spiderman.

Well don't forget studios that aren't Disney have shorter windows to keep their Marvel characters

They could've stuck to their original plan with Raimi and Maguire and skipped a reboot. Whoops.
