Big fan of Contact, yeah the last act is a bit disappointing, but it's good sci-fi I can get behind, and I like the story.

I'm still worried about Princess Mononoke:whosad:

Mononoke was #1 on my list as well. I'd be surprised if it missed the top ten.

Hey, I didn't have time to watch enough movies to knock Hercules off my top 25.

Clearly you weren't fast enough with your speed watching then. Should have acted like a god (pardon my bad pun).

In the not-too-distant future, a less-than-perfect man wants to travel to the stars. Society has categorized Vincent Freeman as less than suitable given his genetic make-up and he has become one of the underclass of humans that are only useful for menial jobs. To move ahead, he assumes the identity of Jerome Morrow, a perfect genetic specimen who is a paraplegic as a result of a car accident. With professional advice, Vincent learns to deceive DNA and urine sample testing. Just when he is finally scheduled for a space mission, his program director is killed and the police begin an investigation, jeopardizing his secret........Was voted the most accurate science fiction film ever made, by the scientists at NASA.

Random Critic Comment:  Gattaca doesn't just function as a science fiction thriller, but as both a cautionary tale about the dangers of letting scientific ability outstrip ethics and as a morality play about the irrationality of bigotry...James Berardinelli: Reel Views

Forum member comment:  I watched Gattaca for the first time. It was fine and Jude Law was great. But I think they could have done more with the very promising premise  @TalismanRing

Face/Off

Written by:  Mike Werb, Michael Colleary

Directed by John Woo

Starring:  Nic Cage, John Travola, John Travolta, Nic Cage, Joan Allen

WW Box Office:  245.6 Million

FBI Special Agent Sean Archer tries to find a biological weapon placed in Los Angeles by a sadistic terrorist-for-hire and criminal mastermind named Castor Troy. Archer has hunted Troy for the last 8 years, and is consumed by revenge because Troy is responsible for the death of Archer's son. To do this, Archer must "borrow" Troy's face using a surgical procedure to go undercover as Troy, but things go wrong when Troy assumes the identity of Archer.

Nicolas Cage and John Travolta spent two weeks together before filming to learn how to play each other. They decided on specific gestures and vocal cadences for each character that could be mimicked.  Originally written in 1990, the script was first optioned by producer Joel Silver before falling into the lap of Michael Douglas who, the screenwriters fervently hoped, would star in it alongside Harrison Ford. Instead, Douglas took over as producer with the roles of cop, Sean Archer, and villain, Castor Troy, eventually going to John Travolta and Nicolas Cage respectively.

Random Critic Comment:  I won't pretend that I completely enjoyed it, but it certainly has a few elements that I've never seen before. Action aficionados will undoubtedly slobber all over themselves....Paul Tatara:  CNN

Forum User Comment:  I fucking worship Woo and Hard Boiled is the best action movie of all time but what s up with Woo and doves ???Face Off is his american masterpiece, the premise is a bit over the top but both Cage and Travolta ham it up to the top.  @The Futurist
