Weekend Thread | Coco 19M, JL 9.4M, Wonder 9.3M, TDA 6.4M, T:R 6.25M, DH2 5.7M, MOTOE 5M (Deadline estimates) | Bunch of Awardsy stuff making money too

Recommended Posts

Lower Friday figure for Coco compare to Moana’s third Friday, but they project a higher weekend. Deadline must take into account its 2 incredible past Sunday drops.

Solid holds across the board.

Good for Disaster Artist.

Just Getting Started, lol.

1 weekend: 160k on 6 theatear: average 26.6k

Wonder Wheel

1 weekend: 140k on 5 theatear: average 28.1k

2 weekend: 143k in 47 theater, average 3k

What a terrible PTA drop that would be, that would make is movie second weekend 37% smaller than the other despite having 65% more theater.....

Could that mean a lower than 2.3m total domestic for WW ?

Is call me by your name drop despite more than doubling is theater a sign on a direction or the other or just normal ?

Some milestones passed this weekend

- Wonder 100M

- Thor Ragnarok 300M

- Coco (every weekend it doesn’t gross in the negative is a milestone itself).

Okay, I kid (maybe). Coco passed $100M in China this weekend. With ease and plenty left in the tank too.

301M, actually (hopefully).

And that's the number that really matters.

Gladiator adjusted gross is up to 310M now by the way

Really surprised about Shape of Water. Have hardly seen any marketing and GDT has always struggled at the DOM box office, even when he does tentpoles. Would be pretty crazy if this carries over to its wide release and it ended up beating PR for his top grossing movie DOM.

Well it's like 100,000x better than PacRim, so

Give it all the monies

Everything having a good weekend.... except Just Getting Started (which is so getting a 70%+ drop next weekend) and Wonder Wheel (buh bye Woody Allen).

The limited market is going gangbusters now. I was about to throw a party on that MAD hold for Shape Of Water, but it was revised down and I'm kinda sad... but it's still a good hold. Ditto for Call Me By Your Name and Darkest Hour, and I, Tonya having a pretty strong opening helps too (dat Margot tho). Disaster Artist also going for the fences despite being in only 800 theaters, which is a nice sight to behold.

In the wide stuff, pretty much all movies having good holds. Of course JL was gonna get made fun of for not getting sub 40, but at this point, it just feels too much like been there, done that. We get it, JL is the underperformer of the decade and this is a dead weekend, but a 41% drop is by no means bad, so let it go for a moment.

Coco supreme, outdoing Moana's 3rd weekend (if the estimates hold, which they might, given how Sundays have been ballistic for Coco). Wonder crossing 100M is a very sweet accomplishment and a big breakout story for everyone involved. Ragnarok reaching 300M... any other doubts that Marvel has THE POWAH, getting three movies to cross 100M+ OW, 300+ DOM and 800+ WW in the same f'n year? Daddy's Home 2 and MOTOE are both bound for 100M as well, which is awesome for both of them, and Murder still tracking higher despite losing every single weekend to DH2 proves the power of weekdays, children. Lady Bird stupendous, Billboards also decent. The Star... look, it may not be a huge success, but let me tell you that I wasn't all that sure if it was gonna outgross Leap!, so it is an overperformer imo. In a way.
