I think everyone took this speech to be 100% related to Bush's famous 'you are either with us or against us' speech. I think the Issue in TLJ is the whole progressive-themed plot during a certain scene ended up being the weakest part of the film, but not because of its politics though. Take ROTS. Generally, people accept the fact that it was a vast improvement over ATOC, and while IX won't have the 'we've been waiting all this time to finally see the rise of Vader' it shows that the finale of the trilogy can still rebound after mixed reception to its predecessor. ROTS imo sort of salvaged the prequels from being a total disaster I think. The film was deeply flawed but the fanbase largely enjoyed the film, or maybe we had nothing do for ten years till TFA released?
