Looking for a great weekend.

Question to all. I know this has been discussed in the past, but is Regal the only movie theater chain that offers pre-seat selections when buying tickets? Have AMC or other chains follow suit? I haven't checked to be honest.

This to me, is one of the greatest thing about going to movies now. I don't have to arrive two hours earlier to form a ridiculous line to get good seats. Now, I can arrive 30 seconds before preview starts and no one has touched my reserve seat.

AMC offers it too.

I think they'll definitely be better than CW or AoU. I'm just using those overstuffed movies as comparison cause this one flows much better and is easier to follow despite so many characters and locations. Also, feels really big and important (unlike the other 2 rather filler-ish movies) and is more fun and emotional. It actually has really good tonal shifts (something that CW in particular doesn't).

I meant that I don't think the GA will hate this, particularly. My casuals were thrilled and got kinda what they expected.

It s still baffling to me people in here are still comparing multipliers between 50, 100, 150, 200, 250m openers and afterwards make conculsion about legs.

It doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

That is also why the legs discussion is wrong too.

You open to 200m, you burned  a giant part of demand but if you end at 400m like Civil War last year, it doesn't necessarily  means your legs were that bad or wom was terrible.

The rervoir can only be that big.

Think about the Twilight BO runs, bad legs  amirite ?

Except not.

All these people who saw these movies loved it and came back year after year despite the tepid multipliers.

Twilight movies had terrific WOM but awful multipliers, yes it is possible.

Ummm.... the lowest multi on a 200mil + opener is The Last Jedi's 2.8 mult isn't it?

Cinemark also does it. How widespread though I’m not sure.

UM even if Ultron opened to 200 million it would have gotten similar legs I think.

Maybe but it didn't, you can't use a movie that didn't meet the criteria as an example of movies that met the criteria

Yeah I think for casuals there might even be a "you have to see it to believe it" factor.

Rampage lost 15% of its theaters this week. Theater losses now take effect on Thursday evenings instead of Friday due to the Thursday event kick-off for new releases now.

Not only that but Rampage dropped from two or three screens to a single screen at many locations (and from three or more to just two). The same is true for A Quiet Place and pretty much all of the holdovers. Anything that is not AIW is down to a single screen at most cineplexes with 6-15 or so screens.

Yeah, but AOU which is a 191 has a 2.4 multi. And honestly, it isn't unfair to compare a movie opening at 191 to a movie opening that opened just over 200.

and different time of the year. TLJ multi was helped by holidays, always a leggier season.

I think it just shows how hard it is to get to $200m and usually for a film to get there it requires some extraordinary WOM, which then leads to the good multipliers going forward.

Pretty stoked with my theater choices for 2018 overall though. I've really enjoyed everything I've gone to see so far. All the stuff I skipped and watched at home...I'm glad I did.

Started off strong with Black Panther and peaked with Annihilation, which I'm not sure will be topped this year for me.
