Shame the exchange rate will give them both about the same in US $ :sadno:

Yeah, it was above parity then as the Australian economy just kept growing through the GFC and the US tanked.

BP for comparison;

Quote

How much do moviegoers love Black Panther? The Ryan Coogler-directed movie earned an A+ CinemaScore, Marvel’s second after 2012’s The Avengers. On Screen Engine/ComScore PostTrak, moviegoers are giving the pic an 88% definite recommend, a 95% overall positive score, while a third plan to see it again in the theater.

8% better received than Civil War, so gotta apply that 8% to the multiplier and you get 2.46x

Better leg than Ultron also confirmed.

5% worse than BP though. 3.23x :thinking:

(I am inclined to lean towards 2.46x)

Or 5% less than Black Panther for a 3.3x multi :circles:

Means nothing if you can't say why. No reason why this movie won't have mass appeal. You get action from beginning to end, emotion, crazy end, and many more water cooler moments.

Sure and while the film has tons of actions and pays off everything that they've been building up to but I don't think those who haven't been following the MCU will share the same sentiment. Many parts will require prior knowledge of the movies imo. There's also the ending.

By mass appeal I mean beyond the fans and whoever tags along with the fans. Avengers had mass appeal, it had the team up novelty, made 200M plus OW and 600M plus domestically and had a 3x multiplier, back when the MCU was nowhere near the box office juggernaut it was today and when superhero movies still for the most part, weren't as everywhere as they are now. And the highest domestic movie for the MCU priror was only around 300M. Black Panther was the first black protagonist in a while, had a predominately black cast and celebrated black culture.

This movie reminds me a lot like Deathly Hallows Part 2 but with less frontloading. It's a satisfying pay off to everything that has happened over the past decade (I know about Avengers 4) and all the fans and whoever they bring along will rush out opening week but I can't see it having that much appeal beyond that, hence the likely big drops. By now, you're either a fan of the Avengers/MCU or not.

**Tried to be vague but if any of this counts as a spoiler then I'm very sorry.

Fine fine. I’ll do more math.

Averaging 3.24 and 2.46 gives 2.85x

Best leg for a MCU sequel confirmed.
