If they're doing both Venom and Carnage that's going to be a lot of CGI and increased production cost. Sony have gone overboard on previous Spider-Man movies.

I always assumed Carnage was a given since the movie needs some kind of villain to Venom's anti-hero protagonist here.

Also, this isn’t about audience entitlement to see a costume reveal, this is about actually getting people outside the hard core fan base excited for this. This teaser isn’t going to do the job it needs to.

yeah a trailer is made to be shown to audiences in cinemas. by all means have teases like this on social media but an actual theatrical trailer should at LEAST have the name of the film. unless it's like cloverfield or some mysterybox stuff, or you know, something that's actually somewhat memorable in its own right.

As someone unfamiliar with the property besides "He was in Spiderman 2, right?" .... that reminded me more of Mission Impossible than any kind of superhero...antihero...villain...whatever.

yes. ofc they can still release a better trailer soon and there's still plenty of time before release. This won't actively hurt the movie. I just think it's a bizarre trailer to release.

Yeah it's just a waste of marketing really. They have plenty of time still, but it's not a promising start that they felt the need to put out something like this that does nothing for either fans or casuals.

Based on that teaser - definitely. There is no stand-out shot or anything to drive online discussion. The entire Twitter discussion seems to be about how generic looking it is and the lack of a suit.

As someone who likes Venom this trailer leaves me hopeful.

The sad thing is this teaser is going to be seen by soooo many people in theaters when they watch Black Panther. It's just going to leave a bad impression on the casual audience member to the point where even if the movie ends up being good, that person will have no interest in seeing it. Don't ever make the first impression a bad one.
