I get where @Thanos Legion is coming from. He's not dissapointed that movie won't make 150M 2nd weekend(outlandish expectations), just that this weekend both Friday & Saturday have had muted increases compared to other Marvel movies. Usually Marvel movies increase in the vicinity of ~60% on Saturday but this one seems like 50% (maybe even less), so getting a bit dissapointed over it seems fair to me.

Exactly. I wasn’t in the “IW will drop in the 40s” camp, or some nonsense. I was hoping for high 120s, expecting maybe 115-123. Sub BP 2nd weekend would be disspointing in the context of the weekday numbers and past MCU performances.  And not, like, super disspointing. Just a bit.

Another way to look at this is that IW has a chance to be the second highest grossing non opening weekend Saturday, if it gets past 47.55 million.  That's nothing to be disappointed with.

True for sure:

97 107 The Dark Knight WB $28,272,494 4,366 $6,476 7/26/08 9 $290.1 $533.3

in 2018 dollar (no ticket inflation just speaking in same dollar)

Avengers: 46.63

Spider man: 42.31

Avatar: 32.88

Dark Knight: 32.77

I think Titanic is safe now unless China goes over $550 million (unlikely). Its rank at #2 WW will probably be challenged again next year though... if not by Avengers 4, then the Lion King.

As long as China's number hasn't out and Deadpool 2 hasn't out, Titanic WW #2 will still be looked like

we overemphasize the weekend usually. i think folks would complain less ironically if AIW behaved worse on weekdays and showed better weekend bumps with smaller numbers overall:

16.0 wed (-32% instead of -28% actual)

14.0 thu (-12.5% instead of -9% actual)

---

29.5 (+111%) vs 31.4 (+103%)

46.5 (+58%) vs 47 (+50%)

32.5 (-30%) vs 32.1 (-32%)

=108.5 FSS (-58%) vs 110.5 FSS (-57%)

I get what you guys are saying.  You're disappointed that it didn't get to set records this weekend.  Or disappointed that it couldn't increase like other Marvel films.  Makes sense.

But I guess it's about balance.  The numbers during the week were really good which means maybe some of the people who would usually wait to see it on the weekend, went out to see it during the week.  the box office is funny sometimes.  You think it behaves in a certain way and they it throws a monkey in the wrench.

Yup, the old greasy monkey wrench. All signs were pointing to $130-140m imo

Or it could be really crowd pleasing and it has an excellent multiplier.

I said that we don't know the quality yet. Nothing about my comment negates the possibility that people could enjoy it.

You know, what we need is a CBM with the intelligence of The Dark Knight, a villain as great as Thanos, the emotional resonance of Logan, the wit of the first guardians, the action direction of Winter Solider, a score as great as 2002's Spider-Man, and a leading friendship interplay as strong as McAvoy/Fassbender in First Class

I really don't care about the leading man friendship thing, we've had virtually nothing but that for decades. I'd prefer more of these comic book films to star women in the future.

Except for the ones showing that the week might have been boosted by spillover from the weekend.

--

Basically there were two plausible takes to have during the week:

IW was starting to develop extraordinary legs.

IW was getting spillover from near-capacity weekend.

Either one could have been true.  Looks like, for now, it was the latter.  Still a great drop even with the context of spillover being taken into account.

Doesn't mean folks can't be disappointed.  But just be disappointed that it does look like it was spillover boosting the weekly totals.  As it is, it's still a historic weekend that any film would be proud to get.

I mean, to show how funny this all is, would folks really be happier if this had done worse during the week but better during the weekend while ending up with near the same amount? Psychology is a funny thing, I guess. :)

Joker and Doc Ock > Thanos imo. But agree with rest.

What if Rth comes back with 50-51 Sat, and with a good sub-30% Sun drop (like TA) it does 117-119 (-54%) rendering all the meltdowns premature ;)

Eerything is possible here:sparta:. Some members always overreacts to any info about big numbers.

It's like: "48 mln Saturday? :whosad:

             50 mln Saturday? :ohmygod:

"

too subtle gap

Watching the 2003 Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This one is so good. And Jessica Biel is hot as you know what.
