The Lion King OS Thread

I meant the increases were bad if @Charlie Jatinder is correct about other movies. Obviously a 250m international OWend is good, but certainly could have gone higher and I really hope that they need to adjust it up with actuals by quite a lot, like 5-10m up.

Als this means OS-Total (OWend this Wend only) with 2.8x would be 700m (+200m in Ch+Jp+I+HK) = 900m, though it obviously could perform better everywhere and a 3.2x would take it to 800m (+210 in the rest) would mean 1010m OS.

we will see i guess, as we dont really know what the friday was, in anyway we will have the first taste of its legs next weekend

The original only did ₹2.75cr in India. This one's weekend is ₹64cr.

Damn.

Germany: Original vs 2019

OWend: $4.9M vs $10M (4-day)

Total (1st run): $56M vs $35-40M

Adm OWend: 983k vs 915k

Total: 11.33M vs 3.5-4M

That total looks horrible. Should have done 7-8mn admissions atleast.

To be fair:

Original vs Live action

Aladdin: 6.35M vs 1.9M (hopeful the total which would be only below TLK, B&tB & AiW)

B&tB: 5.18M vs 3.43M

TJB: 7.6M (+9.1M+5.47M+4.17M+1.04M=27.39M) vs 1.88M

And most movies fail to top the previous movies, only exceptions:

Marvel (Endgame 2nd highest Superhero movie ever, only about 100k below Spider-Man)

And Star Wars! TFA is the highest out of all of them about 100k above TPM+3D and the only one above 9M.

TLJ was also higher than AToC and Empire Strikes Back.

And obviously things like Minion blew up gigantically (almost 7m) and stuff like Skyfall and Spectre performed well too (still below the first but that was a different time).

TJB is huge in Germany. Damn. The recent one look terrible.

Was rerelease in 1979, 1987, 1993 and 2000, the first rerelease did the 9.1M thing.

Its the highest grossing movie since 1963 by 9.5m and 14.4 ahead of the third highest.

2nd highest is Titanic with 18.8m, 3rd highest Once Upon a Time in the West).

Though before that movies had way higher numbers.

For Example: Die Trapp-Familie 27m (Orignal version of the Sound of Music while that didn't even get 100k admissions)

From DHD:

Looking elsewhere, TLK did $122M in its opening European weekend. Highlights include the biggest industry opening of all time in the Netherlands ($6M); the 2nd biggest industry opening weekend ever in Russia ($16.7M); and the top launch for a Disney-branded live-action movie in Bosnia, Croatia, France, Norway, and Poland. France is especially strong on the movie with $19.6M to date.

Across Latin America, the big cat grabbed $57M. This includes being the 5th biggest industry opening weekend of all time in the region; the 2nd best ever in Brazil($17.9M); and the 4th in Mexico ($18.7M). All material markets bowed ahead of Beauty And The Beast, The Jungle Book and Aladdin.

In Asia-Pacific, The Lion King groomed itself to $90M. The film had the 5th biggest industry opening weekend of all time in Australia ($17.1M); and the top start ever for a Disney-branded live-action movie in Korea ($17.7M).

Thirty-six percent of Lion King’s $531M worldwide gross to date has come from 3D. In IMAX, the movie scored the best global opening ever for a Disney-branded title with $25.2M, over 26% bigger than Beauty And The Beast and The Jungle Book.

Still to come on The Lion King, which looks to have sturdy legs over the next few weeks, are Hong Kong, Japan and Italy.
