I'm getting the idea that this is one of those movies that was intended as PG-13, but filmed with extra more-violent shots and CGI blood just in case they were allowed to push out an R-Rated version.

It's just a spinoff of a Spider-Man villain who gets powers after his blood is exposed to an animal who leaps around on walls and bites people, something nobody has ever seen
