Madame Web | February 14, 2024 | Sony Spider-Man Movie I SJ Clarkson to direct

Sweeney (headlining a hit ABY, still on Euphoria) and Merced (major role in TLOU 2) will be fine. Dakota will very likely be fine too. Or she'll have to do 50 Shades from Grey's POV (there's a book).  You know the drill. when something you headline flops hard you revert back to whatever hit you had that could produce a sequel/prequel/other.

Here’s what the real injustice would be: SJ Clarkson never works again *while* Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless continue to get work.

That is almost certainly going to happen.

The funniest part about this whole thing is that we still have two more of these Sonyverse movies coming out this year. You have to wonder if Sony is panicking right now. One of those movies is Venom 3, but will people still care? I would think Venom 2 was successful largely because it was released in close proximity to NWH. Plus, it had Carnage played by Woody Harrelson. What is the third one supposed to bring to the table?

Agree. Venom 3 is going down big time. Carnage was a big draw for fans and that end credit scene caused the internet to explode

She can direct random TV commercials. Guess who did this one after their movie tanked.

Female directors seem to have their careers end after one failure unlike men. Look how Patty Jenkins is still in director jail after WW 2.

I'm sure she'll get to direct more TV but her movie career is probably over. Look at what happened to Patty Jenkins. She lost all her future projects simply because WW1984 was negatively received and I'm only talking about reviews, box office didn't even come into it because it was released at the height of the pandemic. The moment a female director fucks up (even if they've made successful movies before), they're done.

She'll still get major TV work though, Jenkins was blacklisted because of clashing with studio heads

The WW3 story was denied by both Jenkins and Gunn. As for Star Wars, I'm willing to bet that the problem there was Kennedy.

Or Dakota will go back to indies where she actually shines.
