I'm just not buying King Richard as a real contender for anything other than Will Smith anymore. It's the one movie that having a surprising boxoffice run in a sea of struggling awards friendly films would have catapulted it from just an actor play to all around contender status. But that didn't happen.

Everything will have terrible box office so maybe King Richard won't be too held back. The audience reception seems good enough to compensate for it. I'd predict a Will Smith win and noms for Picture and Supporting Actress, at least. Green seems like the type of director who gets snubbed for a surprise choice and Screenplay will have a lot of choices that will appeal to the voters

As of now for winners i'd say:

Picture: Belfast (I've made my doubts about the film public but it's still frontrunner and probably consensus)

Director: Branagh, Belfast (Campion is widely predicted but if Belfast wins BP, it should win Director since it's Black and White and Branagh hasn't won before. This isn't Green Book. And Campion's work isn' Cuaron for Roma level. I think it'll be the critic film that comes up short)

Actor: Smith, King Richard

Actress: Kidman, Being the Ricardos (Stewart is frontrunner but I'm getting the feeling Kidman in a big baity biopic film about Hollywood by Sorkin gets the edge over an artsy film like Spencer)

Supporting Actor: Hinds, Belfast (Toughest category to call. Dornan is probably the favorite but Hinds has a more emotional and awards friendly role... I'll take the bet. Bradley Cooper could be a surprise despite the cameo because his raves and his scene is supposedly a standout)

Supporting Actress: Balfe, Belfast (I feel good about this one)

Adapted Screenplay: Power of the Dog (Campion's consolation prize unless Nightmare Alley hits strong)

Original Screenplay: Belfast vs Licorice Pizza (Screenplay has become a consolation spot for hip choices and PTA fits that but Belfast is still. the overall frontrunner. We'll see)

With NBR Awards and Gothams soon...

NBR

Best Film: King Richard (Licorice Pizza or Cmon Cmon)

Best Director: Villeneuve, Dune (PTA, Licorice Pizza)

Best Actor: Simon Rex, Red Rocket (Smith, King Richard or Phoenix, Cmon Cmon)

Best Actress: Nicole Kidman, Being the Ricardos (Colman, The Lost Daughter)

Best Supporting Actor: Ben Affleck, The Tender Bar (Cooper, Licorice Pizza)

Best Supporting Actress: Cait Bale, Belfast (Ellis for King Richard; Kathryn Hunter, Macbeth or Matlin, Coda?)

Best Ensemble: King Richard (Don't Look Up)

Best Breakthrough: Alana Haim, Licorice Pizza (Woody Norman, Cmon Cmon)

Best Original Screenplay: C'mon C'mon (Licorice Pizza)

Best Adapted Screenplay: Power of the Dog (Macbeth or The Lost Daughter)

Top 10: CODA. Cmon Cmon. Dune. The Last Duel. Licorice Pizza. Macbeth. Power of the Dog. Red Rocket. The Tender Bar. West Side Story.

(They like very male-skewing old boomer movies and studio films as well as A24. A lot. They're not fans of female driven contenders)

Gotham Awards:

Feature: The Green Knight

Documentary: Flee

International: The Worst Person in the World

Breakthrough Director: The Lost Daughter

Screenplay: The Card Counter (spread the wealth around)

Lead Performance: Simon Rex, Red Rocket

Supporting Performance: Ruth Negga, Passing

Breakthrough Performer: Emilia Jones, CODA or Rachel Sennott, Shiva Baby

Golden Globes: What’s Drama and Whats’s Comedy/Musical

I like sorting the two categories in order to anticipate which lead performers would be able to go where.

Drama

Being the Ricardos

Belfast

C’mon C’mon

Dune

The Eyes of Tammy Faye

House of Gucci

Jockey (for Clifton Collins Jr.?)

King Richard

The Last Duel

The Lost Daughter

Mass

Nightmare Alley

Parallel Mothers

The Power of the Dog

Respect (I think song numbers are diegetic?)

Spencer

The Tragedy of Macbeth

Comedy/Musical

Cinderella (for Camilla Cabello?)

CODA

Cruella (for Emma Stone?)

Cyrano

Dear Evan Hansen

Don’t Look Up

In the Heights

Licorice Pizza

tick, tick… Boom!

West Side Story

The Worst Person in the World (for Reinsve?)

Those look spot-on. Tammy Faye is campy with some musical numbers so I wonder if it ends up Comedy? But it's still a biopic so probably not. I haven't seen Cmon Cmon but 20th Century Women went Comedy. Not sure what Beginners did

Weak year for Comedy/Musical. Maybe they nominate Free Guy? They nominated Deadpool and Ryan Reynolds. Jodie Comer could happen, I guess

It is worth noting that Rocketman and Taron Edgerton were campaigned in Comedy/Musical in 2019 despite the film being more dramatic in nature; but the musical numbers were more surreal than just performances.

Tammy Faye and C’mon C’mon do sound like on-the-cuff films that could be comedy due to the reasons you mentioned; that would certainly cause both the drama and comedy races to be even more interesting!

Starting to believe in West Side Story a bit, not to reduce a legend's death to awards speculation but it went from from "movie without much reason to exist" to "welcomed appreciation of a legend with alot of goodwill behind it" very quickly.

My BP predictions in order of likeliness

ALMOST LOCKED

1. Belfast

2. King Richard

3. Power of the Dog

4. Dune

GREAT CHANCES

5. Being the Ricardos

6. Licorice Pizza

7. Don't Look Up

UNSEEN BUT WOULDN'T BET AGAINST IT

8. West Side Story

9. Nightmare Alley

FIGHTING FOR THE LAST SPOT

10. Tragedy of Macbeth (great reviews, but buzz seems soft)

11. The Last Duel (expecting a surge, but will be enough?)

12. Parallel Mothers (auteur's prestige might help, but too many auteurs in the mix)

13. CODA (praised, but too little?)

14. Spencer (solid biopic & star vehicle, but overshadowed by Being the Ricardos)

15. Cyrano (praised, but weird)
