Some movies won’t make the transatlantic journey. After “Oppenheimer” cast member Matthew Modine tweeted a poster of the movie with the hashtag #Cannes2023, speculation that the Christopher Nolan feature would debut at the festival intensified. However, Modine quickly deleted his message, and insiders say that “Oppenheimer” will likely premiere somewhere else and closer to its July release date.

Not too surprising if this is the case

has there been any news about test screenings?

I'm not sure it had any, Nolan had full control of the movie and he decided the final cut, so it's kinda pointless to test it (unless he's the one who want opinions but he doesn't looks like this type of director at this point).

Well, for one thing, even it;s inventors did not think the bomb would be as destructive as it was.

And the author of that seems blissfully unaware we were engaged in a war with Nazi Germany at the time....

Opp was smart (severe understatement) enough to know others were THIS close to making the discovery themselves too. Have no choice but to win the race in that scenario.

IActually, Nazi Germany was way behind in  the race to build a bomb, but we had no way of knowing that.

Point is that until the test at Almorgordo now one knew exactly what would happen. The power of the bomb was greater then the sceintest who created it expected. They were expecting a huge, massive explosion, of course, but nothing like what happened.

"THIS close" means years. Not decades etc.

Actully, there was another movie; "Fat Man And Little Boy" with Paul Newman about the making of the Atomic Bomb made in the 80's. It focused on Lesley Groves, the US Army General in charge of the Manhattan project.
