I can't believe how much shady stuff happens behind the scenes. I thought meal breaks were already a given. Social media really has opened all our eyes to this mistreatment.

This is insane enough to repeat myself: one of the early proposals from the studios was to *reduce* the meal penalty amounts they have to pay.

Yeah, I'm fully expecting a strike to happen now. You film buffs better start building up that backlog, because you're going to need one badly next year.

Asian storytellers are going to be eating next year, to say the least. Squid Game proved that you don't need Hollywood's help in making a hit. Streaming services will just make influencer-centric reality content and acquire a shit ton of Asian stuff for the next year.

If I were Marvel, I'd start thinking about moving at least Hawkeye closer to Christmas, because No Way Home sure as hell isn't making that finish line anytime soon.

The big content famine of 2022 for old Hollywood will be one to watch for. Oscar Isaac's Ivan Ooze-looking X-Men character was right on one account: Only the strongest will survive.

Studios don’t care about fairness or respect towards their employees. Those capitalist executive pigs who work at the top would gladly let the little people work themselves to death while they rake in all the profits. Why else would I parrot that capitalism will kill us faster than Corona will?

I support the unions on this. but seems to me that Socialism can be pretty deadly too...I giver you Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, etc.

And pure Socialism, even when it is not a death machine, simply does not work very well.

Problem with the militant Anti Capitalists is they never come up with a good alternative. I think Captialism with protection for the workers and a strong safety net is the way to go.

I hate the alternatives even more. Communism or Socialism does not work as well. I support a movement for Conscious Capitalism. Its not just about one stakeholder(Shareholders). You have to look at every one(Employees, Customers, Partners, Environment etc). So many companies are adopting it. Its just not there in Hollywood now.

I 1000% agree.

It's not just movies, though. These studios also need a constant production schedule for their streaming shows and this strike could hurt them in trying to grow their services. I'm hoping they realize this and that cooler heads give their workers what they want (and deserve).

I understand a major problem is that other union contracts ( for the writers, and the directors) are up soon, and the studios are afriad if they give in here the other unions will have big demands.

Companies not wanting to set a precedent for other similar negotiations should be rephrased.
The companies never want to give up more money. It isn’t really strategy. It’s a philosophy.
I support unions. I would be truly bummed for these projects getting delayed. I was about to write that I live on stuff like Hawkeye and Spider-Man.
Of course, it’s actual workers who need to live on it.

If it was just about money, I would have more of a plague on both your houses attitude. But this is about work conditions, and people being treated like medieval serfs.

BTW some people just don't get it. In the Spidey NWH thread, somebody said if the strike happens , it won't effect post production because post production people are not in the IATSE..........it never ceases to amaze me how people talk crap without bothering to find out anything about the subject.

TBH, depending on how long the strike goes, I suspect Sony will just swap Morbius and NWH's release dates.  💁‍♀️

Thought thinking the even with a Holiday release date, Mobius could do anything near NWH business is a joke..and a pretty bad one.

It's more about keeping the date locked than anything else at this point.

Yeah, Mobius is just a placekeeper.

Though if the strike goes on for more then a couple of weeks. there is simply no way Spidey will be ready by the release date.

But now I just read that Mobius is still in post also.......

Causing pain to your employer is the whole purpose of a strike, frankly.

Sadly, there is always collatrial damage but that is the world we live in.

Question: How will this impact, if at all, the live news networks?

it would be good for everyone if Fox News goes offline for a while :-)

They used to be cash flow negative couple of years ago but not anymore. They are setting on $7.778B end of last quarter. They can definitely afford to wait for a while if it benefits them long term. As posted previously some of the smaller studios could go bust and they could buy some content for cheap making up for loss of new content short term.

With nearly 18 billion in long term debt. Sure they can raise debt and hold the cash. That’s not cash rich.

Hollywood Braces for Disruption and Hardship as IATSE Sets Strike Deadline

hopefully they resolve this ,there is no need to go through with this, just give the workers what they want which are the basics , things that should be happening years ago.
