With nearly 18 billion in long term debt. Sure they can raise debt and hold the cash. That’s not cash rich.

That is mainly because debt is super cheap. Their Quick Ratio is > 1. They can pay their debt without any issues. These companies have no issues getting more money as well. If it was otherwise they would have paid off more debt and did a secondary stock offering to pay off even more considering their stock is at All Time high.

“The Teamsters will not work on any jobs where IATSE is on strike, Dayan said.

“We honor picket lines,” he said.”

Hell yeah.

This was also interesting in the same article.

"Some production work will continue, however, because it is governed by separate contracts that have yet to expire, and those contracts contain no-strike clauses. Those exempt productions include commercials, animation, low-budget films and projects for HBO, Showtime, BET and Starz. Some workers have been asking their locals which contract they work on, and whether they are expected to strike or go to work."

Yes, it’s very complicated and I’m sure all the locals will be providing resources to their members about which productions are under which contracts. “Low budget films” I assume means non-union or non-signatory production companies; it’s not like WB (for example) could suddenly decide to make a bunch of “low budget movies”.

Honestly the Teamsters’ response is great — their contract isn’t up for a couple of months, but I’m glad they’re standing by their union brethren.

Neither the fact that it’s cheap debt nor the fact that they could liquidate shares makes them cash rich. In fact it points to the opposite.

Does this affect non-scripted live TV too? Like news networks.

Some, not all. I’m not sure about news networks specifically.

“Workers on Videotape Agreement-covered content like reality shows, game shows and talk shows from companies like ABC Signature Studios and Cartoon Network Studios would also withhold their labor in a strike.”

Just got this nugget, buried in another update.

“Finally, we have been made aware that in response to the strike announcement, some employers are scheduling unplanned sixth and seventh days and additional overtime.  It is telling that during a negotiation focused on unsafe hours and other abusive working conditions, some AMPTP companies are intentionally choosing to risk the health and safety of our members to serve their own selfish interests.”

I was wondering about whether any productions would do this. Basically become the example that the union is fighting against.

Wrong thread but they have almost 8b in cash in their coffers and have no problems paying off installment on their long term debt.

FYI Apple has long term debt of 105.752B as of June 2021 end. Would you say they are not cash rich. They can get cash for anything. And have no issues paying ridiculously low interest rate(Apple could issue debt at 0% at this point. Berkshire actually did it).

Ar you saying the fact they could easily clean up their debt if they wanted (but considering how cheap debt is they even prefer buying back stock instead at the moment) point to the opposite of being cash rich ?

Studios don’t care about fairness or respect towards their employees. Those capitalist executive pigs who work at the top would gladly let the little people work themselves to death while they rake in all the profits. Why else would I parrot that capitalism will kill us faster than Corona will?

well that's the dumbest comment I read all week
