does the decent improvement shazam saw in presales after the mediocre reviews came out strengthen the argument that it was under-marketed and could have done much better if more people were aware of its existence?

Nah, the Tomato rating isn't actually high enough to pull people. Love and Thunder was Fresh and that was generally considered janky by audiences. This is maybe gonna be a couple points higher than Quantumania but it won't be a critical fave.

oh no, not like that, I mean in the sense that people needed a reminder that this was a movie that was coming out, and while the reviews are poop, they at least sparked some conversation, reminding people about the movies existence

Guessing Canada might just be underindexing for Shazam lol. All of my comps point to around 2-2.2M. Guess 3.5 or so doesn't sound so bad after looking at the dismal numbers I've been seeing all night.
