Whats a more impressive achievement domestically: Titanic or NWH during a pandemic?

Titanic.

was meant to bring down Hollywood
Opened, and then literally made the same money every weekend for months. Unbelievable. Will never happen again.

wake me up when NWH is still in the top 5 on memorial weekend.

NWH is super impressive but it maybe does 10% more if the pandemic had weened down to 10% of where it is, let's say.

Titanic was on another level. It sold 30-35% more tickets than TFA, domestically. The biggest thing about Titanic is it was never supposed to do what it did. The Secretariat of movies. A run for the ages.

Both of these threads being closed seems redundant. Shouldn't one be open? lol.

Opening to ring in the new year.  I mean, I think we can be without posts in there for the next few hours. ;)

Titanic is probably the greatest box office performance ever. That was a truly once in a lifetime event. It was written off as a flop by Hollywood for years, had its release date pushed back

Titanic run is the most impressive run of all-time whether domestic, international or worldwide.

It's original run finished with 600M+ domestic, shattering the old record by over 140M. Internationally, it doubled JP1 previous record holder. It shattered records in pretty much every market.

It's obviously Titanic, come on now. Maybe a better question would be what would it take for NWH's total run WW to be more impressive than TFA/IW?

Titanic's initial theatrical run is probably the single biggest box office run of all time. A NWH-like performance comes around every couple of years; Titanic's run is a literal once-in-a-lifetime.

While true, that's only because ANH got that re-release for the 30th anniversary. For a single run film, it beat the record by almost $250M!

For comparison (for those who weren't around), that would be like a film doing $1.5B domestically today.

Titanic's original theaterical number are so iconic that most boxoffice followers will know by heart. 600M, 1.2B, 1.8B
