Unsurprisingly Sony was a tad optimistic for both of then. That Sunday hold for NWH was a ridiculous expectation. Hopefully today is on point or better.

You're right about Uncharted but NWH is over 215K higher than Sunday estimate by Sony.

Maybe I’m totally misreading, but the Sunday estimate on BOM is $2.835 million. Thus, $2.6 million would be a decrease of about $235K.

Still a phenomenal weekend hold and incredible late run regardless.

Peace,

Mike

I had a feeling it would do well overseas but I've still been surprised by how WELL it's going. In more than one place it's outdoing even pandemic era MCU properties. I think he's just been unlucky with some of his past non MCU releases.  He's talented and people want to see him in all sorts of things, if twitter is anything to go by. His most viral stuff has to do with his dancing and people are ready to see him in lighter non-action fare.

If Sony can pull off the Fred Astaire biopic they might hit a goldmine.. as long as it doesn't go too serious in the name of Oscar baiting. Some fans are hoping they get Florence Pugh as Ginger, which would be a great idea for a dozen reasons (acclaimed, MCU adjacent, also a dancer).

2 months without nothing but NWH.

That's the reason for Uncharted overperformance.

Wait aren't these Sunday numbers? 2.6 will be a very strong Sunday hold.

Mojo has the wrong sun est (to be precise, they fat fingered the 3 and the 8). The-numbers is showing the correct sun est from Sony of 2.385 (7.2-fri-sat). It beat that by ~10% per Jat’s num.

As others have commented, it’s so refreshing to have such a strong weekend in February. I’m hopeful that this is a sign of people starting to make their way back to theatres as discussion of Covid fades and, at least around here, most people are treating the Omicron wave as the last significant wave.

I’m ready for The Batman.

Peace,

Mike

Thank you - classic new-BOM messing everything up.

I wish there was a good alternative to BOM that was more like the old BOM - unfortunately, The Numbers isn’t there for me on the structure/style side of things.

Peace,

Mike

So far none of the weekend since NWH made over 100m. I will take that as benchmark if weekend number are back to above 100m consistently(even during weekend without superhero opener), if not we are still in the world that pretty screwed by the pandemic or streaming like feature

$100m OW is still a tall order these days, not even Shang Chi or Venom 2 managed it.

It could be while before that becomes more common outside of cultural events like NWH, when most people don't care about covid anymore. Plenty of people don't care already, but it needs to stop being in the daily news and turn from pandemic to endemic already.

And that it's a strong weekend without a super or a sequel - fresh concept product actually delivered the nice news...that makes it nicer...
