Weekend thread (3/11 - 3/13) | The Batman 66M. 50% drop, 2nd-biggest second weekend for WB | Uncharted 9.25, BTS 6.85, Dog 5.35, NWH 4.07

Recommended Posts

Tremendous number. Weather no doubt cost it a few millions too. Obviously word of mouth is very good, but The Batman is going to benefit just tremendously from the dead market over the next few weeks. Even with The Lost City in 3.25, it should still do well.

Next weekend could be mid 40s.

I know there are much bigger stories this weekend, but the fact that Dog is going to finish within a few million of A Dog’s Purpose is outstanding. That was (to my knowledge) the biggest “dog” movie of the last decade. Dog getting there is incredible, and a sign that the theatrical experience is indeed back baby.

Legs overseas are looking quite good too. We'll have to see what happens in China next weekend.

Does The Batman even have a concrete date as to when it will launch on HBO Max yet beyond the vague "45 days after theaters" thing? With drops like this one has to imagine they'll hold back for as long as possible, especially when $400M+ total is now well within sight.

I'm pretty sure one of the international HBO Max socials started touting an April 17 date.

What’s vague about that??? Do you want them to express it as 45 days and 6 hours or something 🤔

Uncharted's run is pretty impressive. That probably getting over a 3 multiplier is pretty crazy.

Younger moviegoers attendance is very strong at this point. Just waiting on adults.

“Radhe Shyam” opened at #6 it seems, great for a foreign language film. Unfortunately though, it was incredibly front loaded. It’s multiplier was 1.5x. Huge second weekend drop on the cards.

It's a flop. Didn't do well in India either. Too big a budget for a romance movie. Prabhas had likely signed it before Bahubali and the movie had to be super sized once Bahubali made him a megastar.

His next few movies are all post Bahubali signings, so those will be interesting to track.

This an excellent second weekend hold considering how many preview showings were included last weekend.

Y'know, I forgot just how earlier previews started last Thursday, plus the Tues and Wednesday shows. Really just a fantastic hold, especially with theaters dropping their ticket prices back to normal rates for the 2nd weekend. People really showed up for this one, and Saturday even outperformed expectations by $500k. The $66m figure is accounting for a 35% Sunday drop; if it outperforms expectations again, there's a chance we could hit a sub-50% drop.

Damn at The Batman, confident it’ll go over $375m with a solid chance at $400m. The fact that we might have 4 CBMs over 400m domestic is wild this year as I don’t think that’s been done (provided Panther 2 doesn’t move).

Go Dog Go! Get that $60m total. Uncharted is having some solid legs and has a good chance at being the biggest video game movie domestically. Will Uncharted be the biggest video game movie of the year is the question?

Disney said Shang-Chi, Eternals, and West Side Story would all be available to watch at home 45 days after opening day and they ended up holding back on those launches. Obviously we're talking about a different studio but clearly these "this movie will be available so many days after theaters" statements aren't set in stone unless there's a concrete date as to when they will launch to go along with them.
