Even lower for both:

Dominion: 12,7M, 67% drop from Sunday

Top Gun: 6,6M, 62% drop from Sunday

Starting to think that those NBA Games did have quite an effect possibly like others have mentioned.

A sad day

Maybe we will get some nice Tuesday increases.

Is NBA the one where they throw the egg around?

No, that would be the NFL - I think - NBA are tall people trying to throw a ball into a hoop.

I believe this just show that Sunday hold was indeed amazing and almost every holdovers had best week-to-week drop on Sunday.

Also, Deadline being deadline again.....LY for $61m opening?

That 61M is meant for Dominions 2nd weekend number. 145M - 58% equals 61M 2nd weekend.

People skip movies for Basketball??

Well...yeah. A sports game is something you have to watch live, or else you miss the conversation. You can go to the movies any time you want.

Wait so the world cup, does that affect movies internationally? I imagine it has some sort of effect domestically but soccer isn't as widely watched here as much as the rest of the world.

IIRC they gave us Jurassic World 2 a month early, and delayed Incredibles 2 by a month just to avoid the WC.

The World Cup is the single biggest killer for International BO grosses imaginable. Soccer ITS CALLED FOOTBALL is the biggest sport by a huge margin in nearly every country on earth, the US is actually a big exception to that.

I was wondering why the world cup hadn't started yet and realized that Qatar is incredibly hot. Surprised they didn't change the location after the FIFA corruption scandal, wasn't Qatar being chosen part of all that.

Yep but FIFA beeing the most corrupt organization in the entire world of sports helped there.

Definitely. Football is gigantic in Asia, Europe, and South America. Summer tentpoles from 2018 felt some impact from WC especially in the Europe. This year’s WC is in December tho. And we’ll see for the first time how it’ll impact the winter movie season. Also it’ll be held in Asia: Qatar. And the time zone in Asia will be friendly. All football matches will start in evening and night time so probably expect the night and every evening shows to be somehow affected across Asia. While for Europe, it will be the matinee and past noon shows and for SA, it will be the morning shows most affected.

Well, you see... FIFA likes money, Qatar has money. It's a match made in heaven (literally for many migrant workers)

With that,  we should anticipate poor numbers all around this Thursday and an extremely muted Father's Day if it goes to a decisive Game 7 as that will be highest rated NBA game of the season.

Everything that can go wrong for Dominion is going wrong.

And yet it'll do what, around 900 million give or take, lol.

Lets not be overdramatic 😅 if truly everything would go wrong, Dominion woudnt

1) have gotten a China release, but it got it. Thats possibly 100M+ WW that the other big movies dont get.

2) have opened to 145M, which is still an acceptable Opening. It could have gone lower, but it didnt and prevented a truly underwhelming performance with that

3) have gotten an A- CinemaScore and what seems so far solid enough WOM. It could have gotten bad WOM, but it doesnt seem to get it.

Im rooting for it to get every dollar possible as well, but compared to many other movies, especially in those last 2 pandemic years, Dominion has it quite good imo.
