TGM has real jet flights, cool pilots, and Cruise isn't 90! He's still very relevant with younger audience thanks to MI.

I have to say Tom Cruise is really handsome.......even he is getting older, many of people of my age have school-girl crash on him,he is still popular among young generation

Legit.  Huge groups of kids from middle school to college age.  Mostly boys in suits and sunglasses, but now girls are getting in on the trend and showing up dressed up with dates.

My guess is the girls will choose a movie in the near future they can dress up and go to.  Maybe it will be Where the Crawdads Sing.

Also, it is GUARANTEED that some corporate marketing department is going to jump on this way too late, try to recreate a viral trend and ruin it.

Universal gets all the kudos for making this trend work for this movie - getting 13-25 males, the biggest current movie going group, to finally show up and in huge numbers for an animated, was spectacular marketing.  Someone at Universal should get a promotion on Tuesday b/c their marketing department was so on point for this movie.

They knew what they had and how to market it to go sky high.  I just wish I wasn't disconnected from that 13-25 meme marketing.

Bruce Nash and Jeff Bock must be BFFS.

Bruce Nash from the-numbers, predicts only a 36% drop for its third weekend? @charlie Jatinder's FRI Estimate at $2m proves that BN is clueless.

Also, Jeff Bock wrote this, "However, Disney will still consider other sources of revenue when it comes to determining whether “Lightyear” was a flop, according to Jeff Bock, a senior media analyst at Exhibitor Relations. The entertainment giant can still make money off merchandise tied to the film and streaming success, he said" and also said, "

Jumping for joy? Clearly, (excluding Onward due to the start of the shutdown in week 2), it will easily gross the lowest in Pixar history and in admissions.

That's no different than any other film. Toy Story kept coming back because it generated BILLIONS in merchandise revenues after each film. Same with Cars. Same with most Disney properties.  Lion King 2, which was straight to video, was the highest grossing home video of all time (iirc), which is why they did 1 1/2. (could you imagine this forum if Lion King 2 were released today, but sent to streaming instead of theaters..). Those movies were simply meant to renew interest in Lion King merchandise. Disney films are simply ads for toys, their parks, and now their streaming service (which is full of 90+ minute ads). Disney could potentially be more profitable if they released their family films in theaters for free, since more people would see it.

Even things like Family Guy got brought back because of DVD sales. Ancillaries can resurrect the dead. Lightyear should be able to scrape up some money on merch. Technically Playmobil had a record profit after they released that absolute bomb of a movie.. though the pandemic hit, which may have been the primary driver of toy sales.

Amazon is already offering credits for Prime Day if you buy the Lightyear merchandise.  They did that after OW.  I have a feeling that the merchandise will be an even larger money loser for Disney, and it will be one for the record books for Pixar and not in a good way...b/c if no one watches your movie, no one wants your stuff...

Money-losing merchandise might move Lightyear from the theatrical bomb category to the company catastrophic bomb category...

Several retailers have added an August 23 release date for TGM on 4K, BD, and DVD. If that sticks, it would probably get a PVOD release a couple of weeks beforehand.

What retailers do you know? I don't think the release date will stick.

I’m not sure how anybody can doubt the appeal of Indiana Jones beyond the nostalgia audience? Especially as that’s what people were saying about Maverick - look how that’s turned out!

Crystal Skull adjusted is over $400 million, and that was the first one for 19 years!

if Indy V is good, it’ll be huge.

It's not a movie about the doll. It's a movie about the person who inspired the doll.

It's not even that. It's a movie within the Toy Story universe which was watched by Andy to make him a fan of the character Buzz which somehow makes no sense with the established canon of Buzz in-universe.

In short, it's a clusterfuck.
