Speedorito
It might be fun but it’s not an event film and/or an IP-based film (for anyone below the age of 50), which is basically the only way to get people to watch stuff in theaters nowadays. And apparently the premise isn’t clicking. They started off marketing this as an action romcom film with Gosling and Blunt, and now it seems like they’re pivoting to “love letter to stuntmen.” I think they just overestimated how much appeal this would have relative to the budget and it’s ability to be the first summer blockbuster. Mojoguy
Writers strike screwed this movie. Deadpool should have stayed on the first weekend of May, while Fall Guy should have been moved to 2nd weekend May. FG would have benefited from being the first film to follow a May mega hit.

I think a movie, unless you are part of a franchise or can sell yourself as an event, has to be more then just fun nowdays. For Fun you have cheaper options. And I think we have a major demographic issue with this forum: Most of the members are either in their teens or college age and do not have a family and they don't get how much tighter over the past few years it has become forpeopple with famalies. Inflatoin has bitten deeply into their disposable income. They simply do not have as much to spend on entertianment as they once did.

For example: I feel Avatar 2 reviews really help the legs because these make people feel this movie was an experience needed to be seen in theaters. I really doubt "it's an incredible fun and good movie" kind of reviews will really help to the legs in a significant way. It looks like it'll play just as well on a 55" screen.
emoviefan
Speaking just for myself If I am interested in a movie and it gets good to great reviews I see it in a theater most of the time. No I am not a teenager or college age kid who has no family to support I am a older person who has no family to support. Probably why I waste time on a BO office forum talking movies and such because most people my age don't give a crap about that stuff =). Another thing as part of this talk about whether people see the Fall Guy as not a movie you have to see in theaters. Why do the studios and theater chains not really look into variable pricing. Like say the Fall Guy would be a great $7-10 movie where as a tentpole like DP and Wolverine could still be 10-20 or whatever. Probably not going to happen so the mid tentpoles like Fall Guy will not break out to bigger numbers anymore., Not when shit is so expensive any more. This was supposed to open on March 1 originally. The only reason it was moved was because the first weekend of May needed something when it became obvious Deadpool & Wolverine wasn't going to be able to make that date and so that it could play at SXSW.
AniNate
Very hard to see the logic of saying a movie would benefit from more competition
Fancyarcher
A complete blast of a film. I was worried that the self-awareness of the script would grate on me, but the action took me for a ride. Gosling's deadpan delivery is so good. I won't spoil anything, but there's a lot of great film techniques on display too, including a split screen sequence. It would be disappointing if this underperformed. It's worthy of the theatrical experience. Edited April 28 by Fancyarcher 1

The screening I went to literally had a "tweet about the movie" hashtag beforehand relating to Instagram and Twitter. Yeah, I'll try my best. I am sure it will go up once the movie actually opens. Or this will be one of those weird instances where there is a disconnect on a mainstream popcorn movie that the critics like and the audiences don't.

JustLurking
Why are we acting like 7.4 for an action/romcom popcorn flick is a bad score again...?
cinema pal
Cuz with tomatocritics' avarage score at 8 it's expected to be higher for a crowdpleaser like this in the first days of release. Ratings usually drop when a wider audience watches a movie On letterboxd it's 3.6/5 after 14.6 k Edited April 28 by cinema pal
TomThomas
I just watched it and if it's somehow not commercially appealing or audience-friendly movie, then the film industry is truly dead. I hope the movie won't flop in the end and I hope we'll stop this silly blame game someday when a good movie underperformes it's always the studio's or marketing fault, but somehow not audience's who would rather watch streaming garbage for free and then complain after. The movie had solid marketing, appealing stars and Superbowl spot, so you can't use this tired "it was all marketing fault" excuse anymore, not in this case.
