Currently I am still thinking the movie is heading to $2bn until the holiday tell otherwise. Domestic market is dragging the performance overall and China isn't there to offset. If not this will hit my initial $2.3bn target.

Its JCs movie - he will keep releasing it this year then next year or 10 years later. It will eventually reach 2B or more. An if it finishes that close to NWH - he will surely take shot at re-release it again in July or August, 2023.

Do people really think that Avatar wouldnt have re-released in 2021-2022 if MCU didnt exist or if Endgame didnt top it years prior. It seems perfectly reasonable that it did in since a sequel after a 13 year gap was around the corner. And it did quite well and was only a net positive for Avatar 2 and the franchise.  It even seems like the China re-release was something the Chinese asked for. I know its half joking but quite a few people on the internet legit believe that Cameron was shitting and pissing himself in rage after he lost the box office spot and he re-released the movie 10 times in order to get it back

I mean, the timing of it was quite suspect. I get that from time to time re-releases just happen but come on....

I can't quite remember but it was not long between when Endgame took #1 and Avatar was re released.

What??? No way. There was another one, I'm positive.

EDIT: just checked. You're right. My apologies. It FELT like there was a re release in early 2020 or something. The pandemic has clearly messed with my sense of time. 🤣

idk timing seems anythin but suspect. I only see a very small rerelease in 2020 in like 3-4 small countries. The China rerelease in 2021 that according to Cameron at least was an idea that came from China initialy and not him or the studio and finaly the 2022 global rerelease preparing for A2 and testing some tech stuff

Yeah I edited my post. I don't know why I remember it re-releasing so soon after Endgame. I suppose with the pandemic hitting in early 2020 and nothing really going on during it, Endgame still felt really fresh going into 2021.
