The problem is, people act like this movie gotten terrible reception. Come on, Avatar 2 ticket price costs more than your average tentpole yet it still pull people into theater and develop healthy legs almost everywhere. If the main take away is visual and 3D then so what?! 97% of the movie released in the past 24 months gave me nothing after come out from theater.

I agree there. I think the WoM has been positive. And, critics received it positively as well. Hoping it gets to 550M+ DOM and maybe even 600M with late legs.

Speaking with Collider, Cameron said, “I can’t tell you the details, but all I can say is that when I turned in the script for 2, the studio gave me three pages of notes. And when I turned in the script for 3, they gave me a page of notes, so I was getting better. When I turned in the script for 4, the studio executive, creative executive over the films wrote me an email that said, ‘Holy f*ck.’ And I said, ‘Well, where are the notes?’ And she said, ‘Those are the notes.’ Because it kind of goes nuts in a good way, right?

Can we skip Part 3 and go straight to Part 4? Lol

FYI:  TMobile through Atom will be giving all subscribers $5 tickets to PLANE on Jan 10.  This is a NEW deal, never done before.  Before, it's been $4 tickets (the best deal), BOGO, and $5 off (the one that moves the needle the least - see Whitney).

I MAY almost buy those $5 tickets, especially since they usually cover PLF tickets.  $10 for a PLF movie date could work for me.  But, we'll see how bad the movie is (you can usually redeem the deal for the full week).

Still not sure Plane is the movie that will get a real bump from this deal, but at least the deal offered is the right one to get a bump...

One of the A2 biggest problem is the movie feel incomplete. And yes, JC deliver two great sequels like T2 and Aliens but he directed those two movies like they are the finale of the franchise. Unlike A2, which basically is a "in-between" story that something JC has never done before until now.

That's not a problem at all when the sequell is coming, is like TLOTR.    Plus you could say Avatar 2.felt more complete than Dune part 1.

Yeah unlike other sequels where he had to do only a single movie here he had to juggle almost 3 movies at once. 2, 3 & 4. That too 2&3 had to be split. It's kinda of new ground even for Cameron

I think 3 is just a continuation from 2nd since it was a single which was split. Although Zoe mentions that she likes 3rd movie better than 2nd

This quote, like all others, has also been extrapolated/blown-up/probably misinterpreted.  It's obviously emotional for Saldana, but also self-generated "buzz" to encourage people to see the movie, so they can anticipate the next one.  But that's the age we live in; one quote gets duplicated across the net and made into clickbait articles...even by the trades.

LOTR already had existing material for reference. Avatar is original. So it's very different dynamic

Dissagree, Dune you could say has the same dynamic, yet some people felt the film incomplete, plus not everyone read the books. People say that movies based on even existing material should feel complete.

I wish :)

Some films are not for everyone, and i feel AVATAR isnt for some off you to be honest.

If you're just there for the action, and arent botherd about the nature doc style scenes, and the 'wonder' of nature, then i'd just skip the series.

I care more about the nature doc parts than the action, the parts a lot of comic book fans would probably think is boring. Those 'boring' parts are what the the hardcore fans love, and even Cameron has said as much himself.

As an example, i bet all those extended scenes with the kids undrwater, playing wiht the animals etc, while the ambient music is playing. Those scenes are probably boring to some of you, ask a hardcore fan and they will more often than not say they are the best parts of the movie.

I think you are taking this seriously lol. It was more of I want to see what happens in 4 because what exactly is different there that the movie is nuts compared to others

Weird post. I like both Avatar 1 and 2. I was referring to Cameron’s words. He said Part 4 made the producers say “holy fuck” because the script is apparently that damn good. So yes I am eager to see Part 4, moreso than Part 3.

Well thats what i mean, the 'nutz' part. What does the film being 'nutz' suggest?, probably crazy action right?.

Thats exactly what i was talking about.

Having finally seen it, I don't think it's an issue. It's not a cliff-hanger like POTC 2 or Matrix 2, nor is it similar to LOTR - those movies each felt complete in their own way, while clearly just chapters in a bigger story; however, the fact that they were yearly releases lessened the impact of this.

For me Avatar 2 doesn't have an issue with it feeling incomplete or a stand-in until the next one comes out. SOME of it is wheel spinning, but I think the bigger issue it has is the pacing with its middle hour. Aside form the pacing in the middle, there's some big issues with the story, characters, especially some of the new ones, the dialogue, but I think the ending is tight enough for what it set out to tell in those 3 hours, anchored by a surprisingly emotional element (as much as it seems like a plot hole that so many characters disappear in the end, it works that it feels like a more intimate affair, and not a rehash of the first battle, while still delivering on the action). It doesn't feel unsatisfying for me. Couple that with the unsurprisingly mind-blowing visuals and I think it's good enough for strong WOM through the next two weeks and also has a decent hook for the third one.

The "notes" quote from Cameron does make me hopeful the third will be a step up in story and pacing.
