GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 WEEKEND THREAD

Recommended Posts

For me the turning point was wandavision. The series started promising and was great, fans were hyped, the introducing of fox quicksilver was epic. And then they said "LOL FU** Y**" in a worst possible way to many comic book fans, who had high hopes. Sure some fan demands were unrealistic, but the way marvel/feige made fun of his fans was bad, really bad (Ralph Boner). They  had realized they fu** up big, they tried to calm the waves but  it was to late.

$119M OW falls within the $110-120M last week predictions. It is still the lowest since NWH except for AM3.

In vacuum yes but the story here is the Sunday hold. Likewise, OS holds throughout the weekend.

This is an interesting point. In 2016, Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad beat Captain America: Civil War in Europe, and basically tied in Latin America and Africa, according to the Focus report.

The focus report?

OS did pretty great we can all agree about that I suppose.

Honestly after the inevitable big drops this upcoming weekend (due to natural frontloading) and the weekend after that (Fast X taking all IMAX/PLF screens) it should be set for some solid staying power since the lack of depth in the marketplace (both for this weekend and for the rest of May besides Fast and Mermaid) means that it will be very last as far as movies likely to be dropped by theaters are concerned. The panic button pressing pre-release was very premature IMO.

fwiw, with 174M opening even L&T legs would put Guardians OS at +450M

I would say 500M OS and 800M WW is likely atp. It can go higher but let’s wait until next MON to see how it goes.

Yeah, Vol 1 made 439M OS and Vol 2 473M. 500M isn't a stretch given the franchise's past performance and current WOM.

Oh don't worry they'll be hitting the panic button this weekend no matter what

So was EC right or what I need to know

He was. 118M+ is much closer to 120M than 114M.  And full actual could still go up from 118M+.

Then the exhaustive talk about superhero fatigue this weekend means +800m WW

Think the studios can live with that.
