Seems like Mi7 had minimal effect on holdovers.

The effect was felt on Tue & Wed: For example, Indy was down ~45% for the weekend (minus previews), but 59% Wed/Wed thanks to losing PLFs (also some holiday inflation)

Also there wasn't much screen & show loss on Thursday like with a normal opening, but will be some for Friday as MI7 expands it show volume and older films get cut

It affected them most on Tues when MI7 had day long previews - like when films drop on Thursdays for normal openings.  Most probably lost their biggest theater counts then.

there is nothing wrong with film enthusiasts being disappointed and saddened that a very good film is going to underperform/flop. Obviously it’s just a movie but in the case of movie discussion, it’s a totally valid thing

What expectations did people actually have for this before it opened? Because Fallout did $61m in 2018 for the 3-day and as far as I can see a $50-$55m 3-day after burning through $25m of demand is about on par with that. Surely you all didn't think that this would copy TGM?

100M 5-day at least

FRIDAY AM: Mission: Impossible  Dead Reckoning Part One saw $8.3M on Thursday, repping a 47% decline from Wednesday opening plus previews of $15.5M. Two day total is $23.8M. Hopefully this film spikes today. I mean, it will spike today, it’s just by how much given that A CinemaScore and 4 1/2 stars and 88% on Screen Engine/Comscore’s PostTrak. Guys at 65% gave the movie its best grades at 90%. Women at 35% weren’t that far behind at 86%.

Found the reason why the movie underperform. Male: Female ratio of 65:35 for MI:DR but was only 55% for Fallout.

If MI:DR retain the same male:female ratio like Fallout, the 2 days total would have been $28m+. The lost of female audience by 10 percentile limit the celling for MI7.

CinemaScore shows 55% males to 45% for Fallout.

To sell out weekdays, you need very young people and old people. TGM had both. SOF has the latter. MI7 has neither as it targets older millennials and GenXers. I’ll postpone my depression atleast till Friday
