That's incredible that the two movies finished with him a few thousand dollars of each other for first place on wednesday. Should be pretty interesting today but I think it's pretty safe to say that sound of freedom will be ahead of mission Impossible for thursday.

Wonder if Paramount was playing the old Transformers Puerto Rico fudge game on this Wednesday number.

Crazy that PASSION OF THE CHRIST's run would basically adjust to SUPER MARIO BROS. numbers, both domestically and overseas. But SOUND OF FREEDOM is pulling better weekend holds and summer weekends on top. Gotta imagine that PASSION 2 is gonna be for July of next year, right?

James Cameron have been demanding theater to upgrade their cinema screen to 4k, whether if the hall is PLF or not but cinema is still slow to convert them.

It's a cost thing, a lot of exhibitors are still recovering from the pandemic but a lot of the digital projectors that were bought back in the late 2000s are showing their age and need to be replaced. Comfort, formats and a good food menus is one thing but I think the priorities needs to be replacing those aging 2K projectors.

I know every one of us is prone to do this from time to time including myself, but nobody thought Paramount made any kind of scheduling snafu before the picture came out. Now all of a sudden it's not getting the top gun Spike that a lot of people thought it would and now we're all armchair quarterbacks saying that Paramount fucked up. Summer is the most lucrative time of the year for movies. Every year movies have to compete with one another in the summertime for those summer time dollars. Paramount didn't fuck up. Maybe the mission impossible series is doing exactly what it should be doing. It's always easy to criticize after the fact. But where were you armchair quarterbacks before the movie opened up? 🤷🤷

Honestly scheduling a film is one of the hardest thing ever because there are so many factors to consider. Everyone keeps suggesting August, September or even January to release tentpoles but they're typically the lowest attended months, summer and Christmas are a best times if you want to make bank.

Honestly I just don't think MI movies are summer movies. Release them anywhere from October-December and they'd do better.

All but one Mission Impossible film has released in the summer, it's a bit dumb to say they're not summer movies.

Post-COVID IMAX and PLFs are more important than ever, particularly for a "see it on the big screen" franchise like M:I. Release a movie in the summer, and due to the crowded marketplace there's no way you can ever get more than one or two weeks of IMAX. MI8 should release in a less competitive date to maximize PLFs

Moderation

Sound of Freedom’s politics is only allowed to be talked about in the Sound of Freedom thread. We have told you all this many times. Please take the conversation elsewhere.

Look, I know you live on this message board, but not everybody reads every post or comment. I come here MAYBE once a day. It is absurd to think that everybody sees your rules for everything at all times.

Now you are trying to silence us with these kind of rules

This needs to be adressed

It is a little odd when calm discussions get jumped on.

It's about stopping things from getting out of hand in multiple threads, which has already happened. Every Weekday and Weekend thread would turn into a Sound of Freedom pissing contest if moderators didn't keep the non-box office discussion in check and focused to the movie's own thread.

This weekend will be brutal, but I can't see how next weekend won't be just as bad, if not worse. I would be shocked if it didn't lose a ton of screens once the two week window is over and exhibitors need space for Barbie and Oppenheimer.

It's a $200 million movie that is a top 3 film in the country even with Barbie and Oppenheimer. It should be talked about.

Eric is power drunk and intolerant though and the success of a film that appeals to conservatives must be stomped out at all costs.

All right I'm going to stand up for Eric and cap even though our heads have bumped one another a few times.

The entire Genesis of not getting into politics here about sound of freedom is that there's an entire thread that is open where you can do that. There's members here that don't want to hear about all the political conspiracy theories about the movie and there's members here who only want to talk about the political agenda and conspiracy theories about the movie.

So they have asked us to keep that rhetoric out of the daily box office numbers threads and that seems very fair and reasonable to me. Not that my opinion matters anymore than the rest of you, I'm just saying I get why they want to keep that kind of talk out of here.

As I mentioned there's an entire thread about sound of freedom where you can go talk about anything. Just keep the daily number thread about the daily numbers that's all they're asking.
