Regional comp

0.565x Blue Beetle for $1.9M

1.356x Gran Turismo* for $1.7M

*I'm using Jats estimate from twitter this morning of $1.25M for GT.

It fell against BB, which had a big jump during this period.

I still feel that this should have a strong finish that keeps it above $2M, but we'll see how things go.

Good bounceback from yesterday. Part of the jump on GT is updating the Thursday preview number, but, still, 29% daily growth this far out is impressive.

You think the marketing for A Haunting In Venice may hurt it? It's being marketed at a horror movie when it probably really isn't.

They are going to corn themselves into a place where the movie doesn't have an audience. Adults won't go to a horror movie and teens won't care about it either because it is not really a horror movie.

I'm just baffled it even exists. What was the goal in greenlighting a third movie in a series most people don't even really like? Especially when the last film didn't even do all that well anywhere, said last film was set to be on a big decline even in a best case scenario and it's a horror movie (or is it?) that has little to do tonally with the other two movies? Was Disney/Fox really just assuming Michelle Yeoh's eventual Oscar win was going to bring people in? Did they hope this would get Kenneth Branagh to sign onto a Hulu show or something? I genuinely don't understand the goal here.

Nile finally arrived while COVID was still a very active presence and did pretty well in theaters considering such (it was actually the third biggest adult drama of 2022 behind Elvis and Where the Crawdads Sing), and did pretty well on streaming. It's not entirely a surprise they found a way to justify finishing a trilogy, in this day and age the numbers need to approach truly embarrassing levels for a franchise to be scrapped.

My guess is wanting to sustain a working relationship with talent like Branagh was the reason why it was greenlit. They might be giving him what they want so that he'll be motivated to helm a big Disney blockbuster in the near future, as I imagine Artemis Fowl soured him on the studio. The reason why it's getting a theatrical release instead of being dumped on Hulu like 95% of Fox's slate after the merger is most likely because of the streaming bubble popping last year. With those losing priority, they figured that if they had to make the movie they might as well get some revenue for it instead of it being lost in the sea of competing digital content.
