I know this will probably age poorly in about a month, but it would genuinely be shocking if the highest opening for a movie this decade that's not a comic-book movie is Wicked.

Highest non comic book opening is almost surely going to be these guys: eddie murphy shrek GIF

Think Fandango missed one film with PG rating that was higher than Wicked, Super Mario Bros.

Previews vs. Full day comparison so they probably omitted it.
Plus Mario had 1/4 the sales window of Wicked

Gladiator 2 Day Two (T-43)

14 showtimes/71 tix sold (+15)

.69x Venom 3 Second Day [???]
.86x AQP Day One Second Day [5.51m]

Decent day, I’m going to introduce twisters as a comp (for pace purposes, the raw number will be high) since it’s the only one I have with a similar sales window.

Gladiator 2 Day Three (T-42)

14 showtimes/74 tix sold (+3)

1.07x AQP Day One (T-28) [7.28m]
2.06x Twisters First Day (T-42) [15.45m]

Twisters underindexed like crazy so that comp is just there to compare pace. Other than that, I expect to see really small growth for the next few weeks (Twisters grew just 29.7% from its first day to two weeks later)

Most of the better comps (Venom 3, BB4) won’t kick in until later

* just for fun, the Deadpool 3 comp on this day spits out 2.65m, I’m interested to see if at the next time I took Deadpool (T-30) Gladiator can surpass it. It should be able to considering it would only need to grow 12.1% which is just another 9 tickets

Was watching the Mario threshold actively yesterday and can confirm Wicked outsold it on the Fandango side of things. (Doesn't necessarily mean it'll do Mario numbers, just that Fandango specifically sold more tickets on the first day of sales for one film versus the other.)

Wicked 2 Day One (T-43)

15 showtimes/458 tix sold

.626x Deadpool 3 First Day [24.10m]

2.245x Joker 2 First Day [14.14m]

Joker is a better comp: that overindexed a fair amount just as I expect Wicked too (considering I track NYC where the play was put on + NJ which is close)

Wicked 2 Day Two (T-42)

15 showtimes/519 tix sold (+61)

.482x Deadpool 3 (T-42) [18.56m]

2.20x Joker 2 Day Two [13.86m]
7.01x Gladiator 2 (T-42) [???]

I’ve got Gladiator in there mainly for pace purposes. Besides that it was a standard day two, a little above expectations considering there’s a bit of an allocation problem
