JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

Recommended Posts

You guys are too hard on Subers, he does actually go back and look at his old predictionshttp://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=3726&p=.htmhttp://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=3797&p=.htm

He isn't as objective as he claims he is. Do you remember his ridiculous claims in July 2012 about the gross if The Dark Knight Rises. He said it would top Avengers OW (with $214M) and earn $850M overseas. He justs overblows stuff for movies he likes. He's doing the same this year with X-Men:DOFP and Godzilla. He never updates his reports with actual overseas weekend numbers (only estimates) but he claims that his website is accurate. How can that be? He doesn't even bother to add up the initial overseas gross with the gross of the 3D re-release (e.g. Lion King, Finding Nemo). I've told him many times through tweets but he doesn't accept anything.

A prediction like any other that was wrong, people here were predicting 200m!. As for OS updates (in articles), it doesn't matter really. BOM is a site primarily for the DOM box office and Frozen doing well in Japan isn't going to change that. The rerelease gross thing is not true actually, they aren't separated.

You better ask mojo why they often miss local  releases in Japan box office charts. Like Detective Conan last week.

They often miss entire weeks (TS3's and TWR's OWs). It's one of the reasons why I don't rely on BOM for OS box office. Edited by lab276

My email to ray subers last week at box office mojoRay. Do you look at the data or just write about it. Frozen hit its last milestone? Far from it. its a lock to pass Iron Man 3 for number 5 world wide. look at the data below. if it doesn't come in over 200 million in japan, I'll fly out to LA and blow you. you need to rewrite that little statement.ThxHis replyLIKELY it's final milestone. The data below is all speculation. Guaranteeing another $100m is absurd. Please make sure to send me an apology when it doesn't hit $200 (and no, I don't owe you an apology if the opposite happens, because I'm not the one who decided to send such a bizarre and vaguely threatening email)My email todayHi Ray.Frozen Japan. Sixth weekend above 8 million. We havent seen a run like this any where since ET, Star Wars, or Jaws. With Golden Week coming up its going to be close to your 175m prediction in two weeks. Like I said 200m a lock! 230m actually, all time #1 japan in US dollars. Its historic. Maybe you want to write IM3 WW likely but not last milestone this time. Harry potter may go down at #4 WW.315m has a shot. We "nerds" love an amazing run. This is like Lithuania winning the world cup. Anyway you're welcome in advance.Love (doing my best not to be threatening)MichaelP.S. You tweeted that you received a threatening email. I believe you do owe me an apology when it blows thru 200. Oh shit I used the word blow again. A pox upon me.P.P.S. "If you're not writing well or true, then dont bother publishing at all"J.D. SalingerGod rest his Goddamn soul! His replyDon’t e-mail me again.Ray SubersEditor, Box Office Mojo/IMDb.comMy replyIm just trying to help you keep your job Ray. Oh boy, I just emailed you again. Please dont call the internet police. Im too old for fanboy prison! On second thought I'll give you $10,000 to resign and bring back Brandon Grey.Box office mojo invites you to share your thoughts. According to BOM, TSAM2 opened to $5.2M in Japan. I assume this is 3-day weekend number. So the 2-day number will be around $4M or more?

'Amazing Spider-Man 2's new markets: South Korea ($13.4M), Russia ($8.9M), Italy ($6.5M), Japan ($5.2M)... http://t.co/R705boGNoV #boxoffice

These are estimates data. In Italy, for example, when Bom updates os data it's sunday 5.00 PM: cinemas closed seven hours after!

That's a different source of estimates, isn't it? Assuming that $5.2M is accurate, with around 1.2M on Friday (my estimation based on Toho numbers), it should be close to $4M 2-day weekend, or even more, considering BOM tends to underestimate OS weekend numbers.

Yes I know. But it gives an idea how big (or small) TASM2 OW is before the official numbers are reported. The actual number won't be that far anyway.

I don't see how these articles show that he's good at predicting. There are many grades below "B" (incl. Frozen at "F").

Finding Nemo had $528.2M before the 3D re-release: https://web.archive.org/web/20110629205849/http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/world/

It earned $31M form the 3D version (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=findingnemo3d.htm). That adds up to $559.2M, not $555.9M ( http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=findingnemo.htm). So don't tell me the rerelease thing is not true.

For Jurassic Park it's $557.6 + $71.1M = $628.7M, not $626.7M

Total as reported by BOM: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=jurassicpark.htm

I'm not saying that he's good at predicting, only that he's open about it.

I thought you meant that the total OS reported did not include the rerelease at all. And in any case, I don't see how a few million here and there matters. Like I said, BOM is mainly concerned about DOM, as long as that's accurate (or as close to accurate as possible), it's fine.

Yes it's true. But he should stop advertising BOM as the most accurate box office website. Accuracy requires attention to detail, which he clearly lacks in many cases.

What's the website's url?
