Yeah, the anime was definitely very well received, I'm just using manga sales in comparison to huge names like One Piece because that's the best metric at hand to judge how popular Demon Slayer is and how it could potentially translate into $100M in Japan with its movie.

>Tenet is now Nolan's second biggest film in Japan, only behind Inception, after another excellent hold. A total north of ¥2.5 billion (~$25 million) is locked up now, and it might even get pretty close to reaching the ¥3 billion (~$30 million) milestone. But I wouldn't expect a total quite that high, however, since it's losing all its IMAX screens to Demon Slayer next weekend.

>The Asadas! opened to a so-so result last weekend, but as expected since it's an older-skewing film, it did exceptionally well over the weekdays (around 40% better than its opening weekend) and won't end up with a disappointing total after all. It'll probably end up finishing near the ¥1.5 billion (~$15 million) mark.

The Weekend Top 10 is down a respectable 23% versus the same weekend last year.

Naa except for the popular in West animes, Japan culture is alien to me.

That's no typo. Over 6,100 showings at the usual locations (~70% of the market), resulting in an average 23 showings per theater (14 was the old record...). It was definitely going to be the widest release ever from just looking at various theaters this week, but it basically doubled everything!

And Saturday's numbers are likely to be even bigger. All the other films above are their first Saturday numbers because it was higher than their Friday, since Saturday traditionally allows for more seating/showtimes. So when Demon Slayer's Saturday seating comes out tomorrow, it'll be even higher in comparison.

Depends on how it holds. Movies based on anime and Manga don't tend to have the holds that other big movies do.

This is a different case compared to other anime flicks because the movie's story is not a spin-off like 99% are, but a true continuation of where the anime left off last year. It will be frontloaded for sure, but it being 100% canon will play a part in its run.
