JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

DS is too popular now in Japan that cinema are forced to divide the hall into DS zone and non-DS zone.

Also good news from Taiwan, DS did about twd117m opening week, that will be about USD4m. It is already the 3rd biggest Japanese film in Taiwan. Number 1 is YN at about TWD250m total, a figure that DS should have no problem to achieve, IMAX version and dubbed version debut this week.

Reminds me of when The Force Awakens came out in the UK and was showing on 7 out of 9 screens at my local cinema, with all 9 screens showing it after 7PM.

I mean, yeah even you got the point. If I am saying that it can do 25mn admits, why not 30mn.

Anyways, I run my projections, and they are suggesting something of 28mn range 😛

Charlie, your predictions are realistic or optimistic ?

Fastest Films to 15 Million Admissions:
23/24 Days - Demon Slayer: Mugen Train (2020) *Projected*
59/60 Days - Spirited Away (2001)
70 Days - Frozen (2014)
86 Days - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001)
95 Days - Your Name. (2016)
180-190 Days - Howl's Moving Castle (2004)
254 Days - Titanic (1997)

Fastest Films to 20 Million Admissions:
111 Days - Spirited Away (2001)
165 Days - Frozen (2014)

I've never posted the Fastest Films to 15 Million Admissions before (should have back when Your Name. was doing its thing), but here it is. Just note that for it, since so few films have sold that many admissions, the exact days for two of the films are unknown, at least for now (I'll go back and check old articles).

Spirited Away was at 14.7 million admissions on its 56th day, so it probably hit 15 million 3 or 4 days later (weekdays), so I'm giving it 59/60 days on the list.

Howl's Moving Castle is a lot more complicated. It was at 14.5 million admissions (day 156) before falling out of top 10, and it never resurfaced. However, the film received a special couples event expansion sometime in the early Summer when its final total was announced shortly after. So it sold ~1 million admissions sometime between its 6th-8th months. Most of that would have been later I believe since it only sold around 60,000 admissions in its last weekend in the top 10, and it wouldn't have been soon after that. So I went with a wide range of sorts before its run ended.

I don't understand the Japanese can you explain me ? In what you send, 167708 is the number of admissions of Demon Slayer at 20:24 ? So it should end around 180k admissions today or I'm wrong ?

So your reaction was

off the head, too much narration/exposition say whatever in dialogues. two, I wasn't getting any emotional connect with anime. I like animes, even connected really well with Shinkai films, anime-action, I just can't.

Demon Slayer is at its core a very typical Shonen anime, so exposition in the first few episodes is very common. The rest is - like most things - just personal taste. I can say that i love Demon Slayer but i also definetly connected emotionally with (most) of the characters.

>Demon Slayer: Mugen Train still on top. And like the past two weeks, we've been discussing the film enough to where there's nothing else to really say in this post. If you have any questions, check the past several pages regarding its third weekend (or just ask me or the forum again).

>The Voice of Sin opened in second place, selling 145,000 admissions over the weekend frame across 344 screens, and sold 201,214 admissions over its first three-days in release. A very distant second obviously, but this is a pretty solid debut this time of year and should give Toho another ¥1 billion (~$10 million) earner for the year.

>Pretty Cure Miracle Leap! A Mysterious Day With Everyone debuted in third place, selling 97,372 admissions over the weekend on 239 screens. This film was originally scheduled back in the Spring, but got delayed and rescheduled here due to COVID. Not a very good opening here, certainly below the average the franchise posts each year, but in its defense, it was very limited in its seating/showtimes due to Demon Slayer and The Voice of Sin getting most of the leftover medium-sized screens. Let's wait and see how legs are before writing this one off.

>Tenet exceeded the ¥2.5 billion mark after its seventh weekend in release. As I've mentioned, this is Nolan's second biggest film in the market, very impressive, and it's even grossed 71% of Inception's total now. It's slowing down, but should still add a fair amount more to reach about ¥2.7 billion ($25.5 million+) to get above 3/4ths of Inception's total.

>The Asadas! exceed the ¥1 billion (~$10 million) milestone before heading into the weekend, making it a success. It's been well-received by audiences and critics (picking up some notable awards already), but it hasn't really been able to expand its reach very well. A success, but it is coming in a bit below expectations.

The Weekend Top 10 is up a whopping 176% versus the same weekend last year.

First major drop weekly. Friday 50% down from previous week. May be ¥1.7Bn 4th weekend.

At this point id say a bigger drop should this weekend really be expected. The amount of burned demand already is ludicrous.

When we can see it has small drop and continue to have small drop again and again? (Stabilize) and at that time will the gross already be so small to have any impact?

is 31.8B yen of Spirited Away still on the table?

I think during the week when this movie gross is somehow similar to Frozen 2' first week gross. Then we can take DS gross + 13.35 B yen (Frozen 2 total gross) to know the final gross, lol
