So, after outlasting everything released over the past 5 months, is Your Name. going to recapture the #1 spot in its 21st weekend of release? It's looking doable, though Toho's own, Honnouji Hotel, is proving to be a major contender for the top spot. Also, even if Your Name. "only" rises to rank in second place this weekend, it's going to achieve the biggest 21st weekend of all-time, ahead of Spirited Away, by a significant margin (likely over 100%).

And, if it reclaims the #1 spot this weekend, it'll earn its 13th non-consecutive (9-consecutive) weekend atop the box office.

Seeing how FB actually increased today from last Sunday I think the weekend either stays flat, or increases/drops a per %.

In This Corner of the World performance is stunning: despite being a limited release, it managed to crack the Top 10, surge on a weekly/weekend basis, and could now potentially hit the top spot next week.

If any of you are unaware, In This Corner of the World is an animated historical drama directed by Sunao Katabuchi and written by both Sunao Katabuchi and Chie Uratani.  The film tells the story of a pre-World War II Japan (specifically Hiroshima) and stunningly and heartbreakingly contrasts Japanese traditional with the culture of war and its detrimental, astonishing, and scarring effects.

The project was one that was crowdfunded and broke the Japanese record for most contributors and money raised for the creation of a film: contributors raised over ¥39 million.  Additionally, fans raised enough money to send the Katabuchi overseas to show and advertise his film.  All in all, contributors raised over $400,000 for both the creation of the film and advertisements.

Along with a great box office run that seems to only be beginning, In This Corner of the World has been lauded and praised worldwide: both for it's gripping and emotional storytelling, but for its depiction of life before war and its views on Japanese culture and the very essence and culture of warfare.  In This Corner of Our World has won 13 awards of its 17 nominations and is nominated for a further 4 awards, has been named the best film of the year by many publication including Japan's oldest magazine, and Katabuchi has been named the best director of the year.

In conclusion, if you have a penchant for drama films and animated features, then you need to certainly view In This Corner of the World.
