That's like saying all the movies leading up to Avengers were memorable, because people went to see Avengers. Not necessarily true.

The key difference though is that the Avengers will be getting a sequel. And with sequels, people remember the originals. How many sequels have you seen where you didn't remember the original? For me personaly, I always remember the original (except for Blade II, but that's the only time).

Only great movies that have thematic and emotional depth and at the very least decent characterization have my blessing to beat Harry.So, Titanic? Oh fuck yes, that film deserves to be number one.Avatar? Much more enjoyable than Avengers, and actually carried emotional weight.Avengers? Fuck no.

I do agree, however, TA wasn't meant to have any emotional resonance. Whedon set out to do a solidly crafted, fluffy, superhero action spectacle, and he succeeded. The film had no pretense to be anything else but a typical superhero film. And there ain't nothing wrong with that.
