Friday & Early Wknd Estimates (9/21/12): END OF WATCH Solid, everything else soft...

Good for Perks. Into The Wild made 212k from 4 theaters on its opening weekend and then had a good expansion( $18 million DOM). Perks should have a 250-270k opening weekend so, depending on how Summit handles it , 20 million is still achievable.

17 years ago the original "Judge Dredd" made 12 million OW and went on to gross 34 Million domestically. I don't think the new Dredd will get that.

As much I love Karl Urban in this film, that's the advantage you get for having a household name like Stallone in a film (especially back in the 90's when stars could actually draw people to the cinema). The fact of the movies suckiness was never going to stop it making at least some fairly substantial box office.

Recast Dredd as someone other than Stallone...cut Rob Schneider's character entirely...and the original film gets much more done as a 'Dredd movie' than the new one did.Now granted you CAN'T make those changes...the film is what it is. I just think it had more fun Dredd moments. Dredd barely speaks in the new film other than in a generic super cop sort of way and most of the attempts to give him something clever to say fall flat.As stupid as the original film could be at parts stuff like 'What are you doing Hershey?....they are firing [insert gobblygook] from 300 yards away...the effective lethal range of [gobblygook] is 200 meters' is VERY Dredd from the comics. There are NO similar lines in the new film IMO.

Stallone hasn't been in a good movie in decades.

Stallone's has been terrible in the 2000's but I did enjoy Rocky 6 and Rambo 4 for nostalgic purposes. Ex and Ex2 were Ok not great. The 90's he was hit or miss but he did have "Cliffhanger, Demolition Man, The Specialist, Cop Land and Assassins". He's a Legend though, he has nothing to prove.
