This has become a hot topic I'm hearing from some members lately, and thus occasionally among the staff in some ways. The nature of this forum (and most forums) having so many die hard fan bases populate it and clash over everything naturally results in some pretty negative posts and attitudes flying around. In most cases, its just human nature rearing its ugly head. In others, its a habitual problem. So the two questions are: do you feel the forum (particularly the Box Office section) has been allowed to become too negative? And whether you think it has or hasn't, would you post and/or visit more frequently if there were a way for the staff to cut down the negative and vitriolic comments between/from the fans and "anti-fans" of movies? This is all a part of helping us to improve the forum experience for veterans and newcomers alike, so we please ask you to participate in the polls.

Honestly, the way some people speak to each other on this site is ridiculous. I hate when people are abrasive towards one another. I think the mods should not tolerate any of this. I have seen this response to so many posters: "that's because your a fucking idiot." That should require an instant ban.

I voted "yes" on the first and "no" on the second (though it's really more of a "maybe"). I do tend to take breaks from here -- most of the time it's because I'm just busy, but occasionally it's because I realize I'm arguing about really stupid, trivial stuff and it's not worth continuing to do so.One possible concept is to create a "battleground" forum -- if you want to sling shit about different franchises, talk trash, crow about "your" franchise, do it there. Anyone who heads in that subforum is a willing participant of what they're getting into... it keeps the rowdy fun but stops regular threads from just completely getting taken over by nonsense.

It's not about having a tough skin; it's about not having to scroll through all the ridiculous comments to see the meaningful ones. Anyone who is getting personally offended should put things in perspective. I am concerned with the quality of each thread and people who don't know how to communicate effectively shouldn't be allowed to comment.

Look, the insanity of Friday early estimates on a big movie is always crazy/hilarious, but a lot of the rest of the time, when you check into a thread, you have to wade through dozens of pages of bullshit just to find the occasional tidbit of actual discussion. It happens to every major franchise.

I usually have plenty of good discussions every day here. And I dont mind skipping the bullshit and going to the latest page

Even though I don't actively make comments towards others, I've actually been participating alot more since the negativity started. It's actually a bit fun if, like previously said, you only treat it half seriously. No internet forum is that fun with a fair share of trolls and loonies. It would get stuffy otherwise. That said, highly personal attacks are a big no.
